What could be better than a cold Sunday afternoon spent sipping a hot chocolate on the pleasant Pasadizo de San Ginés?
Chocolate with churros.
There's nothing more madrileño than hot chocolate and churros at San Ginés. This chocolatería is tucked away on Pasadizo de San Ginés, a passageway across from calle Arenal. It's easy to find, but if you don't manage to, ask: every resident of Madrid knows where it is. For years and years, madrileños have warmed up their winters with a good cup of hot chocolate and some local-style churros or porras. Inside, there is everyone from the executives taking an early and hearty breakfast ahead of a hard day at work, to the group of elderly ladies who get together every day for their afternoon chat. Ssshhh: a secret.... This place has a hidden life. As it hardly opens at night, it has become a place of pilgrimage for the city's night owls, so on the lower floors, breakfast is often mixed with beer and other drinks for those who haven't yet made it home. If you have what it takes, we suggest you finish your night out in Madrid here.
