Iberia does not permit the carriage of weasels (ferrets, pine martens, etc.)

Please find out what documentation you need to travel with your dog, cat, tortoise, bird, etc. Bear in mind the legal regulations and conditions to take them.

You can request the service through your Iberia office or travel agency in order to guarantee the service.

Acceptance in the hold

Carry them in the hold in an appropriate cage or pet pack: resistant, secure, comfortable and ventilated. Contact the Booking Office when you buy your ticket.

To be able to carry your pet in the hold you must put it in a cage or pet pack that complies with international regulations:

  1. Made of resistant and secure material with a lock to guarantee that it won’t open at any time.

  2. Adapted to the animal's size and in good condition to ensure the animal's safety.

  3. Ventilated and with a waterproofed floor.

The number of cages or pet packs and their sizes is limited by the type of aircraft. If you intend to fly with your pet you should contact the Booking Office for authorisation. The trip can only be authorised when all of the flight legs are confirmed.

Acceptance in the cabin

Take them with you in the cabin if they don’t weigh more than 8 kg. (including their cage or pet pack) with previous authorisation from the Booking Office

Some pets can travel in the cabin with you, if you get authorisation from the Booking Office and if the pet meets these conditions:

  1. 8 kg. maximum weight including cage or pet pack.

  2. Maximum container measurements are 45 cm long, 35 cm wide and 25 cm height and the sum of the three dimensions cannot exceed 105 cm.

  3. The cage or pet pack should be strong, ventilated, with a waterproof floor and it should be safe.

  4. To carry birds, please ensure that the cage is strong, locks securely and that no food or drink can spill. The cage must also always be covered.

  5. You can carry several animals of the same species in the same container if they are small and light enough.

  6. You pet should travel with you without bothering the other passengers. It must stay inside its container/cage during the whole flight and its care is your responsibility.

  7. Animals with special characteristics, e.g., a strong odour, etc., may bother other passengers and the crew, and you will not be able to carry them.

  8. For safety reasons, do not occupy a seat in the aisles next to the emergency exits.

Legal limits and documentation

You can take your pet with you so long as you meet all the legal requirements and have the necessary documentation.

New regulation on the carriage of pets between EU Member States:

Travel within domestic territory

You do not need a special veterinary ID to travel within Spain; you just have to have the animal’s official health card with you. Vaccine requirements in Spain are limited to a rabies vaccine, which is mandatory for dogs in some Autonomous Communities and voluntary in others.

Travelling to European Union member states (except Finland, Malta and the United Kingdom).

Animals must have a PET PASSPORT indicating that:

  • They have been identified with an electronic microchip or a readable tattoo.

  • They have an up-to-date rabies vaccination.

Animals less than three months old require special authorisation from the health authorities of the member states.

Travelling to Finland, Malta and the United Kingdom.

In addition to the rules for the other member states of the European Union, the following applies to pets travelling to any of these countries.

  • If you are travelling with your dog from a country other than Finland, Malta or the United Kingdom, you must provide proof that it has been treated for tapeworm no more than 120 hours (five days) and no less than 24 hours before you arrive at your destination.

  • IBERIA is still not authorised to transport animals to the United Kingdom and will there-fore not accept any pets for this destination.

Pets (except ferrets) shall travel with a pet passport that meets the same requirements as above. Additionally, you should be able to prove they have had a clean rabies neutralising antibodies test (blood test).

Journeys from other countries with favourable conditions to the European Union:

For some European countries (Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican), entry will be admitted according to the applicable national regulations (except Finland, Malta and the United Kingdom).

They will also be admitted entry into European states (except Finland, Malta and the United Kingdom) from certain rabies-free countries (Antigua and Barbuda; Argentina; Aruba; Ascension Island; Australia; Barbados; Bahrain; Belarus; Bermuda; Bosnia and Herzegovina; British Virgin Islands; Canada; Cayman Islands; Chile; Croatia; Dutch Antilles; Falkland Islands; Fiji; French Polynesia; Hong Kong; Jamaica; Japan; Malaysia; Mauritius; Mayotte; Mexico; Montserrat; New Caledonia; New Zealand; Russian Federation; Saint Helena; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Saint Pierre and Miquelon; Saint Vincent and Grenadines; Singapore; Taiwan; Trinidad and Tobago; United Arab Emirates; United States of America; Vanuatu; Wallis and Futuna) with a valid certificate that meets applicable national regulations.

Journeys from other countries with other conditions to the European Union:

For cases of entry from some countries with an unfavourable situation with regard to rabies not included in the point above, entry will be admitted into European states (except Finland, Malta and the United Kingdom) with a certificate that meets applicable national regulations certifying that the animal has had a rabies vaccination or, where applicable, a booster shot in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer laboratory, with an inactivated vaccination of at least one antigen unit per dose (WHO standard) and that the animal has had a blood test to confirm a neutralising antibody titration at least equal to 0.5 IU/ml in a sample taken by a qualified veterinarian at least 30 days following vaccination and 3 months before the trip.

Exceptional cases

Países con una legislación restrictiva para la admisión de animales

No se admiten animales en cabina (PETC) ni en bodega (AVIH) en vuelos a/desde Gran Bretaña, solo aceptamos los animales como mercancía. Debes hacer las gestiones a través de un agente de carga quien hará la reserva en IAG World Cargo. No se puede realizar directamente con IAG Cargo. Si entras al Reino Unido (siempre vía Londres), tu perro debe cumplir los requisitos del Programa de viaje con animales domésticos Pet Travel Scheme del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente, Alimentación y Asuntos Rurales (DEFRA).

Irlanda: en los vuelos a Irlanda solo se aceptarán los animales como mercancía (Carga).

Brasil: solo permite aves si cumplen una serie de requisitos. Más información.

Argentina: deben presentar ante autoridades certificado zoosanitario, emitido por veterinario matriculado, libre de enfermedades y constancia vacuna antirrábica validez máxima 1 año.

Panamá: por requerimiento de las autoridades panameñas, a partir del 1 de noviembre del 2011, por cada mascota que viaje deberán presentar un certificado de exportación para pequeñas especies expedido por la Autoridad Sanitaria del país de origen, donde conste que está vacunado contra la rabia, junto con un Certificado de buena salud del animal, certificado por el cónsul de Panamá del país de origen, el certificado de vacunación antirrábica además de notificar con tres (3) días de anticipación la llegada de la (s) mascota (s). Aeropuertos españoles autorizados para la entrada de animales procedentes de países no Schengen

Si viajas con tu mascota desde un país no Schengen a España, asegúrate de que tu aeropuerto de destino aparece en el listado de aeropuertos autorizados por el Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente:

  • Almería

  • Asturias

  • Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

  • Madrid-Barajas

  • Málaga

  • Palma de Mallorca

  • Santander

Viajar a y desde EE.UU. y si tienes conexión con otra compañía aérea

Si viajas con un AVIH (animal en bodega) no podrás enviarlo en tránsito a destino final. Deberás recoger el AVIH en el aeropuerto de transito y facturarlo con la otra compañía, pagando un cargo por cada compañía transportista.Para que viaje en tránsito debes enviarlo a través de carga aérea.

Si viajas con un PETC (animal en cabina), tendrás que pagar también a cada compañía por separado.

American Airlines tiene sus propias restricciones y normativas para la facturación de animales de compañía. Solo los perros lazarillos y los perros de rastreo, durante misiones de rescate o de búsqueda, pueden viajar en la cabina. Los animales que viajan en bodega no pueden ser facturados en tránsito, a destino final. Si viajas con American Airlines y quieres llevar a su mascota, puedes informarte a través de su propia WEB, a pié de esta página.

Se podrán aplicar diversos cargos, tasas o impuestos, de acuerdo a la legislación de cada país.

Aceptación de animales de servicio y soporte emocional

Damos la bienvenida a bordo a los perros que asisten a nuestros pasajeros.

Para viajar con un perro de asistencia, te rogamos que solicítes y tramites la autorización para su transporte con al menos 48 horas de antelación a la salida del vuelo, a través de Serviberia: 901 111 500 .

Viajar en vuelos IB5XXX operados por Vueling

No podrás llevar animales roedores en cabina y no aceptan animales en bodega (AVIH).

Si viajas con un vuelo IB5000 (Vueling) en conexión con otro vuelo operado por Iberia o Iberia Regional se te aplicarán los mismos cargos que tiene Iberia por origen-destino. En los vuelos punto a punto de IB5000 (Vueling) o en los viajes donde conectes vuelos IB5000 con otro IB5000, el coste del servicio cambia a 25€ por trayecto en rutas domésticas y 40 € por trayecto en vuelos a/desde Canarias o internacionales.

Perros considerados de razas peligrosas

Según normativa de AENA, amparándose en la Ley 50/1999, deberás poner bozal a tu perro para poder pasar los preceptivos controles de seguridad si pertenece a una de estas razas:

Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffodshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu y Akita Inu.

O también, dependiendo de su complexión física, musculatura, altura y peso.

El transportista podrá denegar el embarque de cualquier animal que no cumpla con los requisitos anteriormente citados sin incurrir en responsabilidad alguna.

Razas con cuidados especiales: animales braquicéfalos

Los animales braquicéfalos son perros y gatos que tienen el hocico excesivamente corto, chatos y con la cabeza proporcionalmente muy ancha.

Conscientes de lo importante que es el cuidado de tu mascota, no podemos transportar algunas razas de perros y gatos en la bodega del avión ya que corren un mayor riesgo de sufrir golpes de calor y trastornos respiratorios cuando se exponen al estrés o a altas temperaturas. Si tu mascota es una de ellas, solo puedes llevarla contigo a bordo siempre que cumpla con las condiciones para el transporte en cabina.

Las razas son las siguientes:

  • Perros: Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, Bóxer (todas las razas), BrusselsGriffon, Bull Mastiff, Bulldog (todas las razas), Cane corso, Carlino(todas las razas), Cavalier Spaniel, Chihuahua, Chin japonés, Chow-Chow, Dogo de Burdeos, English Toy Spaniel, Grifón de Bruselas, Japanese Spaniel, King Charles Spaniel, Lhasa-apso, Maltes, Mastiff, Mastín (todas las razas), Pekines, Pinscherminiatura, Pitbull, Presa canario, Pug, San Bernardo, SharPei, Shich-tzu, Spanielinglés enano, Spanieltibetano, Yorkshire terrier.

  • Gatos: birmano, exótico de pelo corto, himalayo, persa.
