The National Museum
The building's imposing exterior is matched by its amazing virtual map of the country's history. Unmissable.
This is, without doubt, the perfect place to soak in the country's history. To do this we will have to go northwards. The historic building that houses this museum stands between the La Merced and San Diego neighbourhoods, divided by Carrera 7ª. When you're arriving, stand for a few minutes to look at it coming out from between the trees from a distance. Its appearance is imposing. Well at least that was what was intended when it was built in the 19th century because it was originally built as a prison. However, it soon became the National Museum. Today, it provides a visual map of the history of Colombia starting with ancient archaeological remains and ending with Botero. After a visit, you will not be able to resist stopping for a drink in the tranquillity of the cafeteria in the courtyard. It's worth it.
