Contemporary art south of the city.
One of the latest additions to the myriad of museums in Buenos Aires is the Buenos Aires Contemporary Art Museum. The ‘MACBA’ (not to be confused with the Barcelona museum of the same name) opened its doors in September 2012 and offers culture and education, divided into four reference categories, namely the permanent exhibitions, the temporary ones, the educational programme and cultural activities. In the words of its employees, ‘it serves as a forum of reflection and access to specific artistic trends in contemporary art, particularly geometric abstract’. These installations were inaugurated during the ‘Global Exchange: geometric abstract since 1950’ exhibition. The MACBA is considered as an authentic, specialised centre, and a 21st century investigation laboratory. The practical information is as follows: remember the museum is closed on Tuesdays, and that general admission is half-price on Wednesdays. Guided tours are offered every afternoon.
