Take the opportunity to discover works by local authors such as Jorge Isaacs or Miguel Caicedo.
A whole new world
Listen up, all you bookworms, because you can let your imagination run free in Cali; and not just because of the magic realism which proudly permeates Colombia from the hand of the Nobel prize winner Gabriel García Márquez, but also because of local authors who are less well-known, but none the less brilliant: take the opportunity of your visit here to be beguiled by the writing of Jorge Isaacs, Eustaquio Palacios or Arturo Alape, as well as by the daring novels of Miguel Caicedo. These books can only be found in the country, making them almost exclusive purchases. One of the most well-known bookshops in the city is Nueva Atenas, which is famous for its collections of poetry and narrative and also for selling second-hand books; it is open every day. As a contrast, the quantity of religious bookshops in the city is particularly interesting, shops such as El Sembrador, Ediciones Paulinas and Tierra de Dios; some of them even celebrate the Eucharist.
