Classical theatres, independent companies and a festival which fills the streets with colour.
Illusions brought to life
Enjoying a trip to the theatre is a genuine tradition in Cali, and a must while you are in the city. The theatre is a deeply-rooted cultural sphere which is becoming more and more popular: so much so, that occasionally the shows leave the theatre and are performed in the open air, for example, during the Festival of Popular Live Street Theatre, which takes place every year at the end of March and which fills the streets with magic and colour. There are legendary theatres, even at a national level, such as the Enrique Buenaventura Municipal Theatre or the Jorge Isaacs Municipal Theatre, both leading players in Cali’s cultural life. There are also a good number of independent companies, such as Esquina Latina, Salamandra or La Máscara, which have interesting programmes with works for everyone, from events for children to short experimental theatre pieces. You will be spoiled for choice.
