Many sweets in Venezuela are based on sugarloaf, cornmeal, and fruits such as coconut, guava, and banana. Tres leches ("three milks") is another - and popular elsewhere in Latin America, by the way - white sponge cake soaked in a mixture of milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream, with whipped cream or meringue on top. Torta negra (black cake) is similar to the English figgy pudding, with nuts, candied fruit, brown sugar, and rum (in fact, it's thought to have originated with English colonists of Trinidad, not far off Venezuela's Caribbean coast.
