If what you are looking for is a special souvenir of your visit to Guayaquil, Artesanal Machala shopping centre -located between calles Ayacucho and Pedro Pablo Gómez- will keep you entertained for hours with its 486 stands. Opened in 2003 after the demolition of the old market, this new centre brings together locals and foreigners in the search of charming objects. The advantage of going to this building with two floors is that you come into direct contact with the craftsman who have travelled from their regions to sell their products. There you will find ponchos from Imbabura, leather trousers and jackets from Otavalo, straw hats and bags as well as all types of delicate craftwork made from leather, cotton, steel or wood. If you wish to complete your day consuming with more traditional products, the shopping centre also has stands selling food and restaurants where you can try the traditional dishes of Guayaquil.
