A church with contemporary architecture
"The Immaculate Conception Cathedral has been the seat of the Managuan Archdioceses since the earthquake of 1972, when the Old Cathedral became unusable for prayer and liturgical purposes. Between 1991 and 1993, the Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta Vilchis designed and carried out the construction of a church inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The result was a contemporary religious building, complete with restrained shapes and an eclectic style, which is reminiscent of Roman churches and mosques.
