The city's highest hill features a sculpture in tribute to Sandino
Natural park, viewpoint and monument
The city's highest hill features the Loma de Tiscapa, a recreational area with numerous monuments, which attracts crowds of tourists with its exceptional views and its significant role throughout history. Its summit is a National Park of volcanic origin; at its centre, a lagoon is found within the ancient crater. This location holds a particular importance in Nicaragua's history, which can be discovered in its museum complex, and also features a sculpture in tribute to Augusto César Sandino, a politician and revolutionary who lived in the first half of the 20th century and was an instrumental figure in the nation's historic development. The statue is based on a silhouette by the Nicaraguan sculptor Ernesto Cardenal in 1990 and is made from steel plates.
