The sands of Salinas Grandes are a favourite destination for bathers, surfers and nature lovers
A one-of-a-kind environment
Salinas Grande Beach is the perfect place to enjoy the sun and soak up the serenity, just an hour outside Managua and half an hour from León. Its tranquillity welcomes those in search of peace, while its waves attract water-sports enthusiasts. Its extensive coastline, made from light-grey sand, leads into the Juan Venado Island Nature Reserve, where wild flora and fauna abound. The entire Salinas Grandes area forms an ample territory of mangroves, virgin sands, nesting areas for native and migratory birds, and rivers in which fish, turtles and reptiles live together. The area is famous for salt extraction, with the salt pans forming a unique landscape. The town is 77 kilometres from Managua, while a bus can be taken from La Terminal in León's small market area.
