A superb local stew to try
Although fish is most popular protein throughout Canary Islands, they, and Tenerife in particular, also have a long and rich tradition in meats. Due to its topography, the island's interior, particularly the canefield areas around El Teide, has contributed some dishes to local gastronomy you should look for on menus. At the top of the list is puchero canario, a kind of stew made from from beef or chicken together with "piñas de migo" (similar to cobs of corn), traditional Canarian potatoes, and a variety of vegetables. To sample it, you'll want to make your way to rural towns in the interior such as La Hoya, Chirche, and La Borgata de Masca.
