An excursion up Mount Gurugú

A thousand metres up!

Right near the sea, this impressive peak reaching 1,000 metres (3,280 feet) at its highest elevations is divided into two by a huge rift called the Barranco del Lobo (Wolf's Ravine). Nature lovers and active types flock here to enjoy the views, explore its Roman ruins, and try to spot the small troop of macaque monkeys that lives up here. Organised tours are available from companies or organisations such as Club Escorpio, a group formed by adventure sports enthusiasts; alternatively, you may hire a vehicle and drive yourself, but in that case it is recommended that you bring someone who knows the area.
