To enjoy fine Asturian cuisine without sticker shock when the bill arrives, head to the Cenador Azul in the small city of Mieres, 22 kilometres (14 miles) south of Oviedo, where you can't go wrong with a wide variety of dishes on the menu here, from the fish of the day to exquisite meat dishes like sirloin steak, entrecôte, and pigs' trotters. Still, though, here it's best when possible to go with the recommendations of the chef and you'll likely be rewarded with a scrumptious example of the seasonal specialties for which Asturias is famed. The house desserts are very much worth leaving room for, as well. And if you can, leave some time before or after your meal for a spin and maybe a museum visit in this pleasant city, capital of this region's reknowned coal mining industry.
