Museo Huellas de Acahualinca
Colección de cerámicas y herramientas encontradas junto a los restos humanos más antiguos del continente
Los primeros pobladores
This museum space is famous throughout the capital, and houses the solidified trail of human and animal footprints, which are believed to be 6,000 years old, the oldest on the American continent; this was determined by research on the original excavation, carried out at the end of the 19th century. The conservation of the footprints in the earth was caused by the present of volcanic materials, which facilitated their preservation. A second archaeological sample, carried out next to the lake in 1977, unearthed a second group of similar footprints. As well as examining these relics, tourists can stop at a collection of pre-Columbian ceramics found at the site, as well as funerary and ceremonial remains, tools and even the remnants of a mammoth.
