You know you're in Montevideo when you walk through the streets and see that everyone is drinking maté. The capital of Uruguay is a hotbed of maté tea aficionados, as well as of tango and candombe, two dances on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Montevideo is said to be one of the cities with the best quality of life in South America, so although you might not find big flashy monuments, you will be able to breathe in that positive energy which, perhaps, comes directly from the River Plate. The park is located in the west of Montevideo, just 20 minutes from downtown. An active environmental education program is carried out in this park that includes talks, workshops and guided tours, touring the place with park rangers from the interpretation center, who raise awareness about the care of fauna, vegetation, the marsh ecosystem and the elements that are interdependent: water, soil, consumption and waste. Its preservation is essential for the environment, which is why it is part of the National System of Protected Areas.

If you find yourself at the Obelisco a los Constituyentes de 1830, known locally as the "Obelisk of Montevideo", you're just one step away from the Parque Batlle, one of the most beautiful and popular parks in the city. It used to be called "Central Park" but as it expanded and become more important it was given a new name: in 1929 it became known as Parque Batlle after the late president José Batlle y Ordoñez, who died that year and is commonly thought of as the godfather of modern Uruguay. The park is home to the Estadio Cenetario, another two smaller football stadiums, the Velódromo Municipal and a masterpiece by sculptor José Belloni entitled "La Carreta". The Parque Batlle is the ideal place for a long walk to reconnect with nature and get a good dose of fresh air. It is also a great location for a family day out.

This stretch of the coast forms part of the Pocitos neighbourhood, one of the most affluent in the city and the most densely populated, with close to 70,000 inhabitants. In its day, Pocitos was one of the first seaside resorts on the continent, becoming known as South America's answer to Biarritz. It has developed steadily since the early 19th century, thanks to its historic buildings, mansions and picturesque houses and today is home to a whole fleet of enormous buildings. There are always people on the Pocitos beach, whether in winter or summer when the locals flock here for football, volleyball and water sports. This neighbourhood offers a range of other attractions such as the obligatory photo at the classic Montevideo sign, the Museo Naval or shipping museum, the Castillo Pittamiglio building and the huge range of restaurants that line the promenade. There is no better way to explore this promenade than pedaling, unhurried and letting yourself be carried away by its charm. There are not a few agencies or hotels that rent bicycles, an experience in which you can mingle with the neighbors who come in procession to play sports, socialize with friends while sharing a mate or fishing. La Rambla is much more than a walk; it is a hotbed of personalities, it is the soul of the city.

It still preserves in its architecture features of the old prison such as the arch and its exterior façade. It has three floors and more than 200 commercial premises among other services: food court, cinema complex, exchange houses, children's play area. In the outer esplanade there are gastronomic establishments, cafeterias, the Teatro de la Candela and the tourist information office of the Municipality. Opened in 1985, it was the first shopping center in the Río de la Plata. It was a work carried out by the architects Enrique Cohe, Gómez Platero and the structure by the engineer Eladio Dieste. It is a work made with bricks under a technique that allows the creation of large civil works with an inexpensive material. The center of the roof is formed by a series of 30 double-curved vaults, with skylights and without tensioners. The vaults are built in hollow bricks.

It is the last town in Montevideo. It is located on the mouth of the Santa Lucía river in the Río de la Plata and has a port for sports boats and a regatta track. In the surroundings is the Lecocq Park and the Santa Lucía Wetlands, coastal saline wetlands, which is why this entire area is a natural ecological center, with coasts, marshes and indigenous forests integrated into the National System of Protected Areas.

Uruguay is distinguished by being in a privileged geographical position for the production of fine wines of different varieties. In Montevideo there are more than 40 wineries registered with the National Institute of Viticulture, most of them family-run. In addition to production, several wineries are dedicated to wine tourism, opening their doors to tourists from all over the world. Although different strains are produced, many of them internationally awarded, the flagship variety of Uruguay is tannat, a varietal wine with which commercial production began and with production volumes that exceed its place of origin. Throughout the year the wineries invite you to celebrate different traditional festivals: in March through the Harvest Festival to experience the harvest and treading of the grapes. In winter, between May and June, the festival of Lamb and tannat takes place, a classic pairing, or the festival of San Juan, with large bonfires and mulled wine.
