Travel guide: what to do and see in Olbia
Tourist Gem: Olbia, la ciudad feliz
Olbia, a beautiful city famous for its beaches, archaeological ruins, and ancient churches, is located on the west coast of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.
A few minutes from the city center, you will discover kilometers of white sand beaches. Porto Istana stands out for the opportunities to practice surfing, diving, or snorkeling. At Lo Squalo, you can go canoeing, windsurfing, or rent a sailboat. Other beaches that offer a wide range of water sports are Mare e Rocce, Spiaggia dei Sassi, and Il Pellicano beach. Bados beach is ideal for families with children, due to the shallow depth of its waters.
The city also has wonderful places such as the Archaeological Museum to learn about the Greek origins of Olbia and contemplate exhibitions of Roman and medieval shipwreck remains. In the basilica of San Simplicio, from the 11th century, and in the church of San Paolo, you can admire beautiful frescoes.
Also, stroll through the narrow streets of the city center to reach Piazza Regina Margherita and Piazza Matteoti, two beautiful squares surrounded by shops, cafes, and restaurants. And let yourself be tempted by the aromas of the exquisite Sardinian cuisine, with roast pork, mussels alla marinara, grilled lobster, and other local specialties.
Olbia is also located about 48 kilometers south of the La Maddalena Archipelago National Park, a group of islands where curious species of animals and plants live.
