More information from Ecuador
Ecuador, one of the handful of countries around the world that straddles both hemispheres, is home to the line that divides the world into north and south.
Quito, the country’s capital, is worth a visit, with a charming Old Town that was one of the first to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, in 1978. With regard to culture, Ecuador is one of the best-preserved countries, with many UNESCO sites. Guayaquil, the most inhabited city in the country and one of the largest in Latin America, has become an important tourist destination, due to its status as the economic and business centre of the country. And there’s more: Ecuador has the most kilometres of river in the world, 26 protected natural areas, is on the list of the world’s mega diverse countries, is made up of 20% ecological reserves, is home to over 80 volcanoes throughout the country, and is also highly respectful of nature.
This respect is reflected in places such as the Galapagos Islands (you will feel like Darwin 1835), theYasuní National Park, Sangay and El Cajas. Its Pacific coastline also boasts incredible beaches, such Esmeralda, Atacames and Salinas.
Iberia now operates flights to Ecuador. This country is six hours behind Spain.
The climate of continental Ecuador is extremely variable, being influenced by three main factors: the marine currents of the Pacific, the levels of altitude generated by the Andes, ranging from 1,000 to more than 5,500 metres above sea level, and the weather systems of the Amazon Basin.
The general mean temperatures range from 0º Celsius in the uppermost peaks of the Andes to more than 30º Celsius on the coast, Galapagos Islands and the Amazon plains. Precipitation is most frequent and abundant in the rainy season, which lasts from December until the end of April on the coast and Galapagos Islands and tends to have the highest temperatures of the year, sometimes exceeding 35º Celsius.
If you fly to Ecuador with Iberia you will either arrive at the airport of Quito or Guayaquil because the company flies to both of these cities.
