What to see and do in Recife?
Recife: culture you feel in your skin
"Recife is one of those places where culture isn’t just something you look at — you live it. From the moment I got off the plane, I felt something shift: the rhythm, the colors, the art on the walls... everything calls you to move, explore, stay a bit longer.
I got lost (literally) in the Santo Antônio neighborhood and stumbled upon an impromptu capoeira show next to a colonial church. Later, in Olinda, every street looked like a painting — colorful houses, flower-filled balconies, and music drifting out of some window.
I tasted tapioca from a street stall, joined a percussion workshop (even though I have no rhythm), and spent hours chatting with a local artist who painted with earth and coffee.
That was the best part: feeling like more than a tourist, like I belonged. Recife isn’t just something you see — you hear it, touch it, dance it. And just when you think you’ve figured it out... it surprises you again." Regular passenger
