Requirements for the carriage of pets from Ceuta and Melilla

In view of the rabies situation in this area, a series of measures have been introduced to control the disease and avoid it spreading to other parts of the country. As a result, all pets from Ceuta and Melilla must comply with the legal health measures:

  • Microchip identification

  • Valid rabies vaccination certificate issued in the past 12 months

  • European pet passport

Furthermore, these animals may only enter the country through an approved airport or port of entry. Granada-Jaén airport is not approved for these purposes and pets are therefore not permitted for this destination.

Traveling to the U.S. with dogs / cats

Starting July 14, 2021, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a temporary suspension of dogs (carry-on or checked), including fully-trained service dogs, traveling to the U.S. from a country considered high-risk for dog rabies.

Only service dogs traveling to the U.S. from high-risk countries with an approved CDC Dog Import Permit may fly. Cats from high-risk countries will not be accepted as carry-on or checked pets during the suspension.

Please consult the list of countries considered high-risk and all the information about the CDC temporary suspension.
