New ways to move up through the Club Iberia Plus tiers

General

What are Elite Points?

Elite Points (PEs) are our way of rewarding your loyalty. Collecting them enables you to keep or upgrade your tier of your Club Iberia Plus Plata, Oro, Platino, Infinita and Infinita Prime card.

We use Elite Points to recognise your activity as a member, and to unlock exclusive Bonus rewards through your journey between tiers.

Elite Points are added to your personal counter between 1 April until 31 March of the following year. Remember, Elite Points cannot be purchased, given away or transferred, as you can do with Avios.

You can check the Elite Points you have earned in your private area in "My Club Iberia Plus".

What's the difference between Elite Points and Avios?

Avios are the currency of the Club Iberia Plus programme. You can earn them on flights operated by the Iberia Group and partner airlines. You can also collect Avios with more than 90 brands associated with the programme and in the Club Iberia Plus Store.

Why is Club Iberia Plus changing the way of collecting Elite Points?

With this new method, collecting Elite Points will be simpler and more transparent for you as you'll collect them per euro spent rather than by distance travelled.

Until now, we used to award Elite Points by zone, generally associated with the distance flown. From now on, we'll reward your spending not only on flights with the Iberia Group and partner airlines, but also through more than 90 brands associated with the programme.

And that’s not all: you’ll also earn extra Elite Points when choosing the Optimal, Comfort, or Flexible fare families in your flights, whether you fly in Business, Premium Economy or Economy.

When will these changes be introduced?

The changes to the new method for collecting Elite Points will apply from 1 April 2025 both to flights you take from that date onwards and to your activity with our associated brands.

How will I collect Elite Points after 1 April 2025?

With the new method, you'll collect Elite Points as follows:

  • Per euro spent on flights with the Iberia Group and partner airlines.

  • With your credit card purchases with our financial partners.

  • Every day with more than 90 associated brands.

Has the period for calculating tiers changed?

No, we'll continue to record Elite Points collected and flights taken from 1 April of the current year to 31 March of the following year.

Are there any changes to the way of collecting and using Avios?

No changes there either. The method for collecting and redeeming your Avios will remain the same.

Are there any changes to the Club Iberia Plus tiers?

Yes, we have good news for you! Starting 1 April 2025, the programme will include a new level–Platino Prime–with exclusive benefits.

Earning Elite Points when flying with Iberia

How does the way of earning Elite Points when flying with Iberia change?

Flights with Iberia and Iberia Express codes (IB or I2) to earn Elite Points according to the new model from 1 April 2025.

You will earn 1 Elite Point for every euro spent on the following:

  • The net cost of your ticket, which includes the fare and carrier-imposed charges.

  • Travel extras*: additional baggage, seat selection, cabin upgrades, etc.

  • Airport taxes, fees and any other charges are excluded.

* Travel extras added after the initial ticket purchase will also earn Elite Points, regardless of the moment in which they are bought.

But that’s not all: you’ll also earn extra Elite Points when choosing the Optimal, Comfort, or Flexible fare families in your flights, whether you fly in Business, Premium Economy or Economy (see FAQ below).

How can I collect more Elite Points based on my fare or cabin?

Optimal, Comfort and Flexible fares on flights with an Iberia (IB) code will earn you extra Elite Points for each segment of your trip:

Extra Elite Points table per flight*:

Distance Cabin Optima Confort Flexible
Short & medium haul (up to 3.000 miles) Economy 75 125 150
Business 175 250 275
Long haul (more than 3.000 milles) Economy 150 225 250
Premium Economy 275 300 325
Business 350 450 500
Business to Latin America** 450 550 600

This table is applicable to flights with an Iberia (IB) or Iberia Express (I2) code, operated by the Iberia Group or partner airlines.

For air shuttle flights between Madrid and Barcelona with the ‘Puente Aéreo’ fare, the extra Elite Points per segment will be 150 for Puente Aéreo Comfort and 200 for Puente Aéreo Flexible in Economy, and 300 for the Flexible fare in Business.

* For tickets purchased under an Iberia Express (I2) code, you will also earn additional Elite Points based on your fare family as it follows: Classic-Óptima, Plus-Confort and Flex-Flexible.

** Latin America includes the following destinations operated by Iberia: Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean (excluding Puerto Rico), and South America.

I bought a ticket in another currency. How many Elite Points will I earn?

The total cost of your ticket will be converted into euros using the official exchange rate set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on the date of issue of the ticket. If you add an extra service to your trip, the exchange rate of the date you pay for it will apply. The amount converted to euros will be used to calculate your Elite Points.

Will there be any exceptions on flights with an Iberia (IB) code?

Yes, but only for tickets where the ticket cost is not available. For example, this includes negotiated fares or flights that are part of a travel package. In these cases, the Elite Points will not be calculated based on spend, but according to the following table:

Elite Points accumulation table for negotiated fares and travel packages
Market Business Premium Economy Economy
Peninsula – Balearic Islands and Melilla 150    75
Rest of Spain/Europe - Canary Islands 250    125

In additionBiz Pro fares, Travel Club, oneworld products and charter flights will earn Elite Points based on the distance and cabins you fly in.

More than 6,000 miles 2,000 1,750 1,250 1,000 350

In the event that, due to reasons beyond the Club Iberia Plus programme's control, we are unable to determine your total spend on a flight, the flight will be awarded points according to this table based on distance and cabin.

I already have a flight booked to fly after 1 April 2025. Will the way I collect Elite Points change?

All the flights you take on or after 1 April 2025 will earn Elite Points under the new method, even if you booked your flight before that date.

What if my booking includes an outbound flight before 1 April 2025 and a return flight after that date?

In that case, you will accumulate Elite Points on the outbound flight according to the current system, and on the return flight according to the new method.

I've booked a ticket entirely with Avios. Will I collect Elite Points?

No. as with the current method, redemption tickets (i.e. flights purchased entirely with Avios) are not eligible to earn Elite Points.

I used Avios to reduce the cost of my ticket. Will I collect Elite Points?

Yes, based on the net spend on your ticket before the Avios discount, including add-on services and operator charges but excluding taxes and fees.

Can I collect Elite Points if a discount was applied to my flight?

If you used a discount code or voucher, you’ll earn Elite Points for the full amount of the ticket, excluding the value discounted with your code or voucher, and the taxes and fees.

I used my resident discount to purchase my ticket. How many Elite Points will I collect?

The Elite Points for tickets where a resident discount has been applied is calculated according to the total valid spend, prior to application of such discount.

Earning Elite Points when flying with partner airlines

Will there be any changes to the method for earning Elite Points on British Airways and American Airlines flights?

Yes. Flights with a British Airways code (BA) or American Airlines code (AA) will earn Elite Points under the new mechanism. You’ll collect 1 Elite Point for every Euro spent on the following items:

  • The net cost of your ticket, which includes the fare and carrier-imposed charges.

  • Airport taxes, fees and any other charges are excluded.

You’ll also earn extra Elite Points on each segment when flying in First, Business and Premium Economy, similarly to how you will do on flights with an IB code:

Extra Elite Points table per flight

Distance Economy* Premium Economy Business First Class
Up to 3.000 miles 75 125 175 225
3.000 miles or more 150 275 350 450

On flights with a BA code, you will also collect Elite Points for the following additional services: extra baggage, seat selection and cabin upgrades.

The principle remains the same: 1 Elite Point per Euro spent, excluding taxes and fees. Travel add-ons acquired after the purchase of your ticket are also valid for collecting Elite Points, regardless of the time of purchase.

Remember that, when not purchased in Euros, the total spend on your flight will be converted using the official exchange rate set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on the date of issue of the ticket or travel add-on.

For reasons beyond the control of the Club Iberia Plus programme, we sometimes cannot determine the accumulated spend on a flight. In such cases, points will be awarded as per the table, based on the distance and cabin of the oneworld products.

* Extra Elite Points in the Economy cabin are not applicable to Basic Economy fares.

What if I buy my ticket from Vueling?

Under the new mechanism, flights with a Vueling code (VY) or Iberia code (IB) operated by Vueling will earn Elite Points according to the total eligible spend.

You'll collect 1 Elite Point for every euro spent on the following items:

  • The net cost of your ticket, which includes the fare and carrier-imposed charges.

  • Travel extras*: additional baggage, seat selection, cabin upgrades, etc.

  • Airport taxes, fees and any other charges are excluded.

*Travel add-ons acquired after the purchase of your ticket are also valid for collecting Elite Points, regardless of the time of purchase.

For flights with a Vueling code (VY) operated by Iberia you'll collect Elite Points according to the distance and cabin table.

Will there be any changes to the method for collecting Elite Points on flights operated by one world or other partner airlines?

Yes, we've updated the distance tables for flights operated by other airlines in oneworld * or by other partner airlines. You'll continue to collect points according to the distance flown, fare class and cabin in which you fly.

Elite Points table for oneworld airlines
Distance in miles First Class Business Premium Economy Full fare Economy Discount Economy
0 - 600 miles 300 250 200 150 50
601 - 1,500 miles 450 350 250 200 75
1,501 - 3,000 miles 750 600 450 300 100
3,001 - 6,000 miles 1,500 1,250 900 750 200
More than 6,000 miles 2,000 1,750 1,250 1,000 350

*As with the current method, only flights with a code by a oneworld airline, operated by that airline or another member of the oneworld alliance, will accumulate Elite Points.

How will I earn Elite Points on bookings that combine flights with an Iberia code and flights with a partner airline?

One of your tickets may contain multiple connections and one of them may have a code from a partner airline. In that case, the Elite Points will follow the same principle for each segment, depending on the airline that operates it:

  • On flights with an IB code, Elite Points will be earned per eligible spend on that segment and you'll collect additional Elite Points according to your cabin and fare.

  • On flights with a BA or AA code, Elite Points will be earned per eligible spend on that segment and you'll collect additional Elite Points according to your cabin and fare.

  • On flights with a VY code, Elite Points will be earned per eligible spend on that segment. You won't earn points based on your cabin and fare.

  • On flights with a code from any airline in oneworld or from other partner airlines, Elite Points will be accumulated per distance flown and the cabin in which you are flying.

Earning Elite Points with non-airline partners

What's the new feature related to earning Elite Points every day?

Until now, it was only possible to earn Elite Points by flying with the Iberia Group and partner airlines, including those in oneworld. From 1 April 2025, as an Club Iberia Plus member, you’ll also be rewarded for your activity with more than 90 brands associated with the programme.

Specifically, you’ll collect 1 Elite Point for every 10 Avios collected through our extensive network of partner brands. For example, if you collect 1,500 Avios for your purchases from these brands, we’ll add up to 150 Elite Points* to your balance.

This conversion of Elite Points is on top of the Avios collected. In other words, your Avios won’t be replaced by Elite Points. Instead, you’ll keep both benefits.

* The earning of Elite Points with partner brands is limited to 30% of the Elite Points you need to reach or renew each Club Iberia Plus tier.

Which partner brands can I earn Elite Points with?

You can earn Elite Points with our extensive list of brands associated with the Club Iberia Plus programme. This includes hotels, payment services, vehicles and mobility, energy, leisure and shopping, fine dining and, of course, for the purchase of your favourite brands through our online shop Club Iberia Plus Store.

Which Avios transactions are not eligible for collecting Elite Points?

The following operations are not eligible for the conversion of Avios to Elite Points:

  • Avios transfer and gift.

  • Transfers of currencies from other loyalty programmes to Club Iberia Plus Avios.

  • Avios transferred or merged from accounts in British Airways, Vueling, Aer Lingus, Finnair or Qatar Airways programmes.

  • Welcome bonus rewards (e.g. when signing up for a new credit card).

  • Promotional Avios collected with Club Iberia Plus bonus rewards.

  • Avios collected as prizes in competitions and draws, whether for winning or participating.

  • Complimentary Avios and compensation for incidents.

  • Avios collected on flights, since the qualification mechanic will be through the spend principle.

Remember, earning Elite Points for the purchase of tickets and add-on services with Iberia or any partner airline is subject to its own rules. The rule for accumulating Elite Points for Avios only applies to purchases with the brands associated with the programme.

How does the collection of Elite Points for payments with co-brand credit cards associated with the programme work?

For purchases made with credit cards associated* with the Club Iberia Plus programme, you’ll also earn 1 Elite Point per 10 Avios accrued.**

This accumulation of Elite Points is on top of the points collected for the service purchased. In other words, if you use a credit card associated with the programme to purchase your ticket for a flight operated by the Iberia Group, you'll collect Elite Points for the flight taken and for paying for it with your credit card.

* Credit cards associated with the programme are as follows: Iberia Cards, Santander Club Iberia Plus Plan, Visa Iberia Platinum and Infinite (Grupo Promérica in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Panama, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador), Visa Platinum and Empresarial (Banco López de Haro in the Dominican Republic).

** Avios earned from points accumulated through these payment methods (e.g. the conversion to Avios of Revolut RevPoints or American Express Membership Rewards) will not be valid.

Is there a limit to the number of Elite Points I can collect every day with the partner brands?

Yes, the earning of Elite Points with more than 90 brands associated with the programme is limited to 30% of the Elite Points you need to reach or renew each Club Iberia Plus level. In other words:

  • Up to 1,050 Elite Points to reach or renew the Plata level

  • Up to 2,250 Elite Points to reach or renew the Oro level

  • Up to 6,000 Elite Points to reach or renew the Platino level

  • Up to 9,000 Elite Points annually to reach or renew the new Platino Prime level

  • Up to 9,000 Elite Points annually to reach the Infinita and Infinita Prime levels

We will record the Elite Points you earn above these limits, but they won't be added to your Elite Points balance until you reach the next tier. Remember, the remaining Elite Points needed to reach or renew a tier must be earned by flying with the Iberia Group, airlines in the oneworld alliance or the partner airlines.

You will not earn Elite Points for transactions earning less than 10 Avios. Likewise, when converting 10 Avios to 1 Elite Point, values will be rounded down (i.e. any value between 11 Avios and 19 Avios will be equivalent to 1 Elite Point).

The new Club Iberia Plus tiers

What will the new Club Iberia Plus tiers be?

From 1 April 2025, the current Club Iberia Plus tiers will remain the same. However, we will be introducing a new tier level exclusive to our most frequent travellers: Platino Prime.

  • Club Iberia Plus Clásica

  • Club Iberia Plus Plata

  • Club Iberia Plus Oro

  • Club Iberia Plus Platino

  • New! Club Iberia Plus Platino Prime

We've also kept our most exclusive lifetime tiers:

  • Club Iberia Plus Infinita

  • Club Iberia Plus Infinita Prime

How many Elite Points will I need to keep or upgrade my tier?

All flights that you take on or after 1 April 2025 will award you Elite Points based on your total spend. You'll also be able to earn Elite Points with brands associated with the programme.

These changes represent a new method for earning more Elite Points, both flying and in your daily life. As a result, we've adjusted the number of Elite Points needed to keep or upgrade your tier.

From 1 April 2025, the Elite Points need to move up to each level are as follows:

  • Club Iberia Plus Clásica: No Elite Points needed

  • Club Iberia Plus Plata: 3,500 Elite Points

  • Club Iberia Plus Oro: 7,500 Elite Points

  • Club Iberia Plus Platino: 20,000 Elite Points

  • New! Club Iberia Plus Platino Prime: 30,000 Elite Points

Will I still be able to keep or upgrade my tier with on a flights per year basis?

Yes, and we'll make it even easier for you! Remember: flights accumulate from 1 April to 31 March of the following year, exactly the same as with Elite Points do.

Previously you could only reach the Plata and Oro levels by the number of flights taken. Under the new method, you can now reach the Platino level this way.

  • Club Iberia Plus Plata: at least 20 qualifying flights,* instead of the current 25

  • Club Iberia Plus Oro: at least 40 qualifying flights,* instead of the current 50

  • Club Iberia Plus Platino: New! at least 90 qualifying flights*

The new Platino Prime level can't be reached by number of flights, only by accumulating 30,000 Elite Points.

*Qualifying flights are those taken with the Iberia code (IB) or Iberia Express code (I2), operated by Iberia or another airline associated with the Club Iberia Plus Programme. Flights purchased entirely with Avios are excluded.

What are the criteria for renewing my Club Iberia Plus tier?

The requirements to renew your Club Iberia Plus level will be the same as to obtain it: collect the necessary Elite Points or take the necessary number of qualifying flights between 1 April and 31 March of the following year.

To reach the new Platino Prime level, valid for 2 years, you can collect 60,000 Elite Points over the entire validity of your card or 30,000 Elite Points in the last year of validity.

What are the benefits of the new Platino Prime tier?

We've created this new tier with our most frequent travellers in mind. In addition to the advantages of the Plata, Oro and Platino cards, it unlocks other exclusive benefits and advantages:

  • Valid for two years.

  • 9 Avios per Euro spent on Iberia code flights.

  • 4 free cabin upgrades per year.

  • Increased personal Avios credit.

  • Free Avios transfers.

  • Free Wi-Fi on board, including for browsing and live streaming.

Are there any changes to the validity period of the tiers?

The Plata and Oro cards remain valid for 1 year.

You can view the changes under World of Platino:

  • When you reach or renew the new Platino Prime level, you'll keep all the advantages for 2 years.

  • When you reach or renew the new Platino Prime level, you'll keep all the advantages for 1 year.

If you've reached Platino before 1 April 2025, you'll keep the 2-year validity of the tier.

Will I earn Elite Points according to my Club Iberia Plus tier?

No, the earning of Elite Points will remain equally easy and accessible to all members, regardless of their tier at any given time.

This means that all members of the programme will earn 1 Elite Point per euro spent on a flight and 1 Elite Point per 10 Avios earned with our partner brands.

My Platino card expires in April 2027. Will my Platino level keep the same validity?

If you have an Club Iberia Plus Platino card that expires in April 2027, we'll maintain the validity of your tier. Remember, this only applies if you reached Platino on or before 31 March 2025.

My Platino card expires in April 2026. How will this affect my balance of accumulated Elite Points to renew my status in 2 years?

To recognise your activity during the year leading up to 1 April 2025, we'll take into account the Elite Points you've collected over the past year. We'll adjust your points in proportion to the new thresholds defined for the Platino level (20,000 Elite Points).

For example, if you accumulated 6,250 Elite Points between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 (i.e. half of the 12,500 Elite Points needed to renew your Platino level), 10,000 Elite Points will appear in your balance after 1 April 2025 (i.e. half of the 20,000 Elite Points you'll need to renew your new Platino level).

This adjustment will only take place in the Club Iberia Plus year that starts on 1 April 2025. From 1 April 2026, the Elite Points counter for Platino members will be reset to the new method.

How many Elite Points will I need to reach the Infinita and Infinita Prime tiers?

Starting 1 April 2025, we'll update the number of Elite Points needed to reach our lifetime tiers: Infinita and Infinita Prime.

We've introduced this change to reflect the new method for earning Elite Points and the new thresholds for the Plata, Oro, Platino and Platino Prime levels.

The change will be proportional to the current thresholds, so the number of Elite Points needed to reach both levels will be comparable:

  • Infinita: 400,000 Elite Points since you joined the programme, instead of 125,000.

  • Infinita Prime: 640,000 Elite Points since you joined the programme, instead of 200,000.

As the main new feature, the Elite Points collected with our partner brands will now count towards the balance needed to reach the Infinita and Infinita Prime levels. As with all the other levels, there will be a maximum of Elite Points from partner brands per year: 9,000 Elite Points.

How will my historical Elite Points balance be affected with this change?

Whatever your path to Infinita and Infinita Prime, we want you to keep exactly the same progress. Since we've changed the thresholds, we'll increase your balance of historical Elite Points so your distance to the target remains the same.

For example, if you have earned 62,500 since you joined the programme (i.e. 50% of your path to Infinita), after 1 April 2025 your balance will be update to 200,000 Elite Points (i.e. the same 50% of your path towards the new Infinita threshold).

For flights there won't be any changes. In general, for the Iberia Group up to 3 days after your flight. For all other partner airlines, it could take up to 7 days.
