Renowned for its spectacular Fallas festival and paella, the third largest city in Spain has much more to offer. Take one of our cheap flights to Valencia and discover a metropolis that enjoys an exceptional climate and offers the best of both art and nature. Located on the Banks of the Turia River, on the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, Valencia boasts impressive urban beaches of fine, Golden sand, such as Arenas, Malvarrosa, Pinedo and Perellonet.

Head to the Albufera National Park for a stroll through one of Spain’s best natural Parks, just 10 kilometres south of the city. Albufera is a saltwater lagoon that spans 24 square kilometres and is surrounded by rice fields, which are of great ecological importance, as they are home to endangered species, such as the Spanish Toothcarp and the Valencia Toothcarp. This area is so beautiful that the Arabs used to refer to it as the ‘mirror of the sun’, and famous Valencian novelist Vicente Blasco Ibáñez used it as the setting for his novel ‘Cañas y Barro’.

Valencia has much to offer urbanites, such as the neighbourhood of El Carmen in the Old Town, which is the most picturesque and lively area of the city, bustling with young people and all kinds of entertainment. Built between two walls (one built by Muslims in the 9th Century, the other built by Christians in the 14th Century), here you will find monuments such as the Serrano Towers and museums, including the IVAM (Valencia Institute of Modern Art), which houses works by Paul Klee, Constantin Brancusi, Robert Rauschenberg, Brassai, Robert Capa and Man Ray. Located right at the heart of the city, Virgin Square is the most important and home to three emblematic monuments, namely the impressive Santa Maria of Valencia Cathedral (a luxurious mixture of Mediterranean Gothic, French Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture), the Virgen de los Desamparados Basilica and the Generalitat Palace.

Other impressive monuments include the Modernist Consistorial House and the Central and Colón district markets. The 15th century Silk Market is a stunning example of Valencian Gothic architecture, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. For a more modern look at Valencia, head to the City of Arts and Sciences, an impressive architectural site designed by famous architect Santiago Calatrava, which offers visitors the perfect balance of both culture and entertainment.
