With Chicago, the first things that come to mind might be Michael Jordan and skyscrapers. But the USA’s second-largest city is far more than sports and towering glass and steel. Its music scene, for example, is amazingly dynamic and diverse, and you must make a point of visiting one of the many local jazz clubs, some with a vibe straight out of the Al Capone era of the Roaring ’20s. Hop onto Chi-town’s elevated trains for a fascinating tour through colourful neighbourhoods and massive forest of more than a thousand high-rises, a compelling mix of past, present and future. Then once you’ve seen the skyscrapers from below, how about taking in the view from the top of the country’s tallest – and the fourth highest on earth? Don’t worry about vertigo – atop Willis Tower you’ll feel like the king or queen of the world.

The Children's Museum, located in the Costa Rican Centre for Science and Culture in San José, in addition to other emblematic buildings such as the National Auditorium theatre and the National Gallery, is, in its own right, one of the city's most popular museums. This former prison has been restored for families to enjoy its more than 3,000 square metres, which host exhibitions and activities all year round. Because, unlike the case of traditional museums, here, the material on exhibition is not only to be viewed from afar, they can (and should) be touched. The goal? Encourage learning through experimentation, play, interaction, curiosity and freedom of expression. The wide variety of exhibitions include the rooms related to the universe, physical sciences and human beings. What's more, the Children's Museum offers guided tours, a cafeteria service and events such as children's parties and educational workshops. Its opening hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Tuesday to Friday and on weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you plan to visit the museum, we recommend that you consult beforehand as opening hours change on public holidays.
