We increase our seat capacity between Puerto Rico and Europe by 30% in 2024

This is the first time that Iberia will have a daily flight on this route for most of the year, which will mark a record in connectivity between San Juan and Madrid.

Iberia's connectivity on its route between Puerto Rico and Europe will mark an all-time high this year, as it will reach almost 200,000 seats, which represents a growth of 30% compared to 2023 and more than 140% if compared to the figures prior to the pandemic, in 2019.

This is thanks to the fact that the airline scheduled a daily flight for most of 2024 to connect San Juan with Madrid, a much greater capacity than it had in 2023, when weekly frequencies ranged between four and five weekly.

This reinforced commitment by Iberia will also be maintained during the next winter season in Europe, which runs from the last days of October to the end of March 2025. During these months alone, the airline will have almost 90,000 seats connecting the Caribbean island with Europe, 13% more than in 2023 and a figure 151% higher than that recorded in 2019.

This route is operated with a state-of-the-art aircraft, the A330-200, which has 288 seats distributed in Business and Economy cabins, which adjusts to the needs of each client. And it does so in a more sustainable way, since this equipment reduces fuel consumption by 15% compared to its predecessor.

“In Latin America we are in a moment of expansion, as demonstrated by the 16% growth in the capacity that we have deployed this year, which leads us to have more than 5.3 million seats available between both regions, a record. historical. And, in this context, the increase we have achieved in Puerto Rico is key to continue consolidating our leadership in the country and becoming the preferred option for all our clients in Latin America to fly to Europe,” says Marina Colunga, commercial director of Iberia for Latin America.

For his part, Carlos Mercado Santiago, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (CTPR), expressed that “at the Puerto Rico Tourism Company we are filled with satisfaction and enthusiasm to be able to have a daily flight for the first time in history. of the Iberia airline, which operates for most of the year on this route. This will mark a record in connectivity between San Juan and Madrid, which will undoubtedly represent greater tourist exchange between both destinations, which will impact the tourism industry and economic development in Puerto Rico.”

Beyond the increase in capacity, Puerto Rico has been in the focus of Iberia all this year, since the route that connects the Caribbean island with Spain celebrated 75 years this year since its first flight. This makes it, in turn, one of the oldest airlines in the region, where it first arrived in 1946.
