As the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Dusseldorf has earned itself its place as the most important economic city in Germany. This industrial city has continued to evolve and grow to become the large, cosmopolitan city it is today. Your visit here is sure to be a pleasant surprise. The Rhine River that runs through the city is a key tourist attraction, as the little cruises that run along it on a daily basis are a great option to discover the surroundings. The Rhine Tower offers spectacular views of Dusseldorf. A great time to visit is during Carnival, which is one of the most famous in this area. You must learn to cheer “Helau!” and Kamele!”, which are two traditional exclamations shouted at these celebrations. A plethora of museums, theatres, concert halls and many bars around the Old Town (or ‘Altstadt’) await you. You can’t leave without having sampled the delicious local ‘Altbier’ beer, which is a dark, slightly bitter beer.
