Travelling by air with a wheelchair or other mobility equipment

If you need to take your wheelchair, scooter or other assistive device with you, we need to make sure it can travel safely in the aircraft hold. Remember that you can check in up to two mobility devices free of charge.

Check in your wheelchair

You will need to tell the check-in staff the features of your wheelchair. For greater convenience, we suggest you fill out our wheelchair information form (available in Spanish and English only), print it out and attach it to your wheelchair. If not, make sure you provide all these details when you check in your wheelchair:

  • Type of wheelchair or mobility aid.

  • Dimensions.

  • Wheelchair weight.

  • Number of batteries installed.

  • Battery type. See information about battery types.

  • Instructions to prevent accidental operation.

  • If you are going to check in your wheelchair, make sure you label it with your contact information.

Remember: we will only remove removable parts from the wheelchair if you give us permission in the written instructions.

How to request assistance at the airport.

Arrival at your destination

We'll bring your wheelchair to the aircraft door, if operations allow. And if necessary, an assistant will escort you to the baggage reclaim area.

If you have a connecting flight and want to use your wheelchair in the airport, we can take it from the hold to the aircraft door. Please let us know at least 48 hours before the departure of your flight.

Do I need a companion?

In general, airlines will accept any person with reduced mobility (PRM) who can understand and carry out the safety instructions by themselves and who doesn't interfere with in-flight safety or the activities of the crew.
Otherwise, you may need a companion and, on specific occasions, health personnel with the capacity to apply the care you need.
Travelling with a companion is mandatory if you need assistance to:

  • Get to an emergency exit.

  • Communicate in any way with the crew about safety matters.

  • Unfasten or fasten your safety belt.

  • Carry out basic physiological needs.

  • Access the life jacket or oxygen mask and put them on.

Except in special cases, your companion must be at least 18 years old and in full possession of their faculties.

We adapt our planes

Our fleet is adapted to carry passengers requiring special assistance:

  • Seats with folding armrests located in the aisles.

  • Wheelchair to help you move around on board, where size allows it.

  • Accessible toilets, on long-haul flights. Ask our crew for the locations and request that they accompany you to and from your seat if needed.

Our planes are prepared to support different forms of boarding and disembarking: remote, jet bridge, lift or ambulift.
