We accept the challenge of sustainable waste management
We have joined the 5 through 2025 strategy promoted by IAG (International Airlines Group), which aims to reduce waste generation and also maximise the recycling of what has already been generated, based on the Rs of circular economy: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The goal is to move from a linear consumption model to a circular model that allows us to reduce our environmental impact.
WE REDUCE
the consumption of resources as much as possible, ensuring our customer's safety and guaranteeing a great travel experience
WE SAVE UP TO 640 tonnes of paper per year
on board our aircraft thanks to the press and digital magazine service, PressReader.
We promote cross-cutting digitisation and encourage online processes: from booking tickets to issuing boarding passes.
WE HAVE REDUCED 30 tonnes of plastic waste in VIP rooms and more than 2,000 kg on board
We have got rid of single-use plastics and we are committed to using reusable and recyclable packaging.
Our aim is to eliminate 100% of single-use plastics by 2025.
WE REDUCED food waste by 30%
encouraging passengers to choose their menus in advance.
We continue to expand our screening services, such as Pre-Order, to load essential food on the plane, avoiding food waste.
WE RECOVER
We give old uniforms a new lease of life
Iberia is committed to the circular economy, so we have developed a project to recover and recycle old uniforms together with Envera, to give a new lease of life to 80% of these garments through charity donations, while creating employment for people with disabilities.
80%
of uniforms are recycled
WE REUSE
to extend the useful life of products
At the height of the pandemic, we donated to hospitals items that we usually offer our passengers on board.
WE DONATED
45,000

9,800

We also donated to the NGO Mano a mano duvets, toiletry bags and crockery for projects in which the NGO collaborates in Latin America.
