The city and province of Granada are among Spain's "must-see" destinations, from history and cuisine to beaches and nature. Amazing places await, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Alhambra and the Albaicín district, in this ancient city founded by Romans, invaded by the Moors, and reconquered in 1492 by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. Other extraordinary Granada landmarks are its grandiose Renaissance cathedral, the Royal Chapel, and the Cartuja monastery. And it's not all art and architecture, either; with its lively infusion of students and visitors, there's always something fun going on around town. Honourable mention, too, goes to the local cuisine, home to both special local dishes and delicious versions of Andalusian classics like gazpacho. In short, Granada will enchant you as much as it has the millions who've visited since those Arabian Nights of yore.
