The fifth largest country in the world has been a popular destination for years. This comes as no surprise, as its vast wealth of natural attractions (including the Amazon Rainforest, which is home to the largest biological diversity in the world), its impressive metropolitan cities, such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (reflecting the country’s recent economic boom), and its wealth of culture, make Brazil a must-visit.

Renowned for its carnivals in Rio, as well as everywhere in Brazil, diversity reigns supreme here. Spectacularly located, Rio is surrounded by mountains, upon which the Favelas are built, and boasts world-renowned must-see beaches, such as Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblón. Its stunning Old Town, brimming with Colonial and Art Nouveau buildings, as well as magical elevations, such as Mount Corcovad (where you will find the famous Christ the Redeemer statue) and the Sugarloaf (offering unforgettable views of the city), make Rio the jewel of Brazil.

If you want to immerse yourself in the country’s samba and bossa nova culture, São Paulo is the place to be. Here you will find a plethora of cultural centres and important museums, such as the MASP, which houses one of the most important collections of European art in Latin America, exhibiting works by Rubens, Botticelli, Velázquez, and Poussin. São Paulo is also home to the best works by famous Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer, including the Bienal de São Paulo, the Contemporary Art Museum and the Ibirapuera Auditorium.

If you fly to Brazil, remember that it is three hours behind the Spanish mainland. The country enjoys a warm climate because 85% of Brazil is located in the tropical zone, although it varies from the equatorial region covering most of the north-east and north to the temperate zones south of the Tropic of Capricorn, which crosses the country at the same latitude as the city of São Paulo. In fact, Brazil has six climatic regions: equatorial, tropical, semiarid, highland tropical, temperate and subtropical.

Iberia flies direct to Brazil and operates several direct flights within the country to the cities of Río de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Sao Paulo International Airport, also known as Cumbica International Airport, is one of four airports that serve this city. It is located in the municipality of Guarulhos, 22 kilometres north-east of the city centre.

If you want to fly with Iberia to Río de Janeiro, you will land at Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport, more popularly known as Galeão International Airport. This is located on Governors Island, approximately 20 km north of the city centre.

If you take a flight with Iberia to Brazil you will also have the opportunity to enjoy the cuisines of this great country, which includes a variety of flavours that can be classified according to three major influences: indigenous, European and African. Feijoada, vatapá, acarajé and picanha are just some of the typical dishes.

And last but not least, don't forget that the currency is the Brazilan real.
