Synonymous with neutrality, punctuality and money, Switzerland is one of the wealthiest and most developed countries in the world. It is also home to a large community of immigrants from various continents, making it one of the most culturally diverse countries in Europe. An ideal destination for both nature lovers and urbanites, Switzerland is sure to make you feel at home.

If you enjoy walking and breathing in fresh air, the options are endless. The Swiss Alps and the abundance of beautiful lakes and valleys throughout the country are a must-see. If you would prefer to visit some of the best museums and sample some of the best cheese and chocolate, don’t miss the cities of Geneva and Zurich.

The former is home to the largest lake in Western Europe (Lake Geneva), as well as the Palace of the United Nations (the largest United Nations centre in the world, after New York). One of the city’s best museums is the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, which uses a sophisticated combination of audiovisual resources, sculptures and computers to document the history from its establishment by Henry Dunant, to its humanitarian role today. Zurich boasts a host of religious Romanesque and Baroque monuments (one of which houses the largest clock in Europe), as well as the impressive Mount Uetliberg. At 869 metres above sea level, this is the highest point of the city and offers stunning views of Zurich, its lake and the Alps. Switzerland is the definition of true luxury.

Iberia flights to Switzerland take barely two and a half hours. In that short space of time, you'll find yourself in the heart of Europe. Switzerland enjoys hot summers, specifically during the months of July and August, without ever reaching extreme conditions. The temperature fluctuates between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius in most of the cantons, although rain is more frequent at this time of year in the highest ones.

However, in winter the climate holds little appeal for sun worshippers because during that season the days are cold and grey with frequent frost and snow. Between the months of December and March, the temperature fluctuates between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius, occasionally dropping below zero. Even so, with global warming the Swiss climate seems to be getting milder and milder.

In spring and autumn the temperature ranges from 8 to 15 degrees, although some days can be warmer and some colder. In autumn in particular, the days tend to be grey and wet, so an umbrella is a must, whereas in spring the entire country experiences an explosion of colour, injecting more life into the landscape. Even so, any season of the year is a good time to visit the country. It simply depends on the type of weather you prefer.

If you take an Iberia flight to discover this destination, you'll either arrive at Zurich or Geneva.

Geneva International Airport is located 5 km from the city centre and there are direct connections to the motorways as well as buses to Geneva and the station operated by the national railway company.

Zurich Airport, also known as Kloten, is situated in Kloten, in the canton of Zurich, and is Switzerland's largest and busiest airport in terms of the number of passengers handled.

Besides, if you fly to Switzerland you'll be able to sample typical cheeses like Emmental, Gruyère, Vacherin and Appenzeller, all of which are vital ingredients in the famous raclettes and fondues.
