Located on the Cap-Vert peninsula, on the Atlantic coast of Africa, is the Senegalese capital and old finishing point of the Dakar Rally. Immerse yourself in colonial history in an environment that enjoys a tropical climate, perfect for strolling through its typical animated street markets.

The bustling and colourful Kermel market, located in a stunning 1860’s colonial building, is one of the most important places in Dakar and offers top quality produce. The Dakar Grand Mosque, built in 1964 after Senegal’s independence, and the IFAN Museum of African Arts (one of the oldest museums in western Africa), are other places not to be missed. If you take one of our cheap flights to Dakar, you will be able to visit one of the most popular tourist attractions, namely Gorée Island. Located 3 kilometres from the city and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, the island is a paradisiacal enclave with an abundance of history. For over three centuries, the island was the most important slave market for those who were to be supplied mainly to the United States, the Caribbean and Brazil. The Portuguese discovered the island in 1444, and built the first Slave House in 1536. From then on it was the most active base for human trafficking, up until France abolished slavery in 1848. The Slave House Museum is a must-see to enjoy the island’s natural beauty and take a walk back through time.
