Iberia celebrates 75 years connecting Mexico and Madrid

In 1950, the Spanish airline made its first flight between the capitals of Mexico and Spain aboard a DC-4

Iberia celebrates 75 years since it began connecting Mexico City with Madrid. This flight, which took place in 1950 and was carried out aboard a Douglas DC-4 aircraft, left the Spanish capital and made a stopover in the Azores Islands to head to Havana and then reach its final destination.

The airline wanted to celebrate this anniversary at the Iberia Space, an experience center that it has installed in the heart of the Polanco neighborhood, in Mexico City, and where Almudena Maíllo, tourism councilor of the Madrid City Council, was present, accompanied by Víctor Moneo, director of Alliances and Strategic Agreements at Iberia.

In 2024, Iberia deployed record connectivity between Mexico City and Madrid, with three daily flights aboard the largest and most advanced aircraft in its fleet, the A350. This allows the airline to transport more than 2,000 people between both countries every day and offer more than 772,000 seats during the year, 17% more than the numbers it had before the pandemic.
