Which items with batteries can I take?
Certain restrictions apply to the transport of electronic devices and lithium batteries depending on whether they are installed in the equipment or are being carried as spares.
-
Devices with a lithium battery installed can be transported in the cabin or checked in, as long as the battery does not exceed 160 Wh.
To check in a laptop, drone, camera, mobile phone or similar device that has an installed battery, you must disconnect the battery as well as any applications, alarms or configurations that might activate it again, taking all necessary measures to ensure that it is not activated accidentally. -
Spare batteries and power bank are not allowed in checked baggage. You must always carry them with you in the cabin. The permitted units per passenger are 4 batteries (maximum 100 Wh) and 2 batteries (between 100 Wh and 160 Wh), and 2 portable chargers (maximum 100 Wh).
You must cover the terminals of all spare batteries carried in hand luggage in order to avoid a short circuit. Use the original packaging, cover terminals or use individual plastic bags for each battery. Please don't store them in the overhead bins or use them at any point during the flight.
Check our Electronic devices page for more information about the restrictions on transporting lithium and other batteries to see whether you should take them as hand luggage, checked baggage or cargo.
Can I carry an Air Tag or tracking device in my luggage?
In order to locate your checked luggage, simply place your Apple AirTag or tracking device anywhere in the bag, preferably inside, and activate "Flight Mode" on your phone. The location of the Apple AirTag will be updated when you land and connect your phone. Remember to always follow Iberia's safety instructions on Electronic devices and batteries..
Can I smoke e-cigarettes on an Iberia flight?
All Iberia flights are non-smoking. The use of cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes and any similar devices is prohibited on all our planes.
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has banned the carriage of electronic cigarettes in checked baggage in the hold, but you are allowed to carry them in the cabin, provided they are kept in their case or protective bag (although you can't use or recharge them).
When you board the aircraft, place them in your pockets, in the seat pocket in front of you, or under the seat in front of you. It is strictly forbidden to place them in the overhead lockers.
Regulations regarding e-cigarettes vary by country. Check the official government website of each country you are travelling to or departing from to confirm the current restrictions and requirements.
Can I use my mobile phone or other electronic device on the plane?
You can use your mobile phone or other electronic devices in plane mode or equivalent (data transmission disabled) throughout the flight.
For security reasons and to avoid incidents with the aircraft systems and equipment, the use of certain electronic devices is still banned during take-off and landing and throughout the flight.
The new long-haul aircraft have a satellite connection to offer WiFi for your personal mobile devices. This means that you can open your email, check social media, send text messages and use instant messaging apps during the flight. We recommend that you disable data transmission of switch your phone off if you don't want to use this service.
