Iberia online check-in

We answer all your questions about online check-in: the steps to follow, reasons why you might not be able to do it and information on mobile boarding passes.

How do I check in online from iberia.com?

You can easily check in online on iberia.com from a computer or tablet with an internet connection. If you have a smartphone, you can download our app for iPhone or Android.

Select your seat and get your boarding pass straightaway when you book any flight with Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum, unless you have purchased a fare that does not include seat selection, in which case you will be able do this 24 hours before the departure of your flight or alternative select a paid seat to get your boarding passes.
Check-in for flights to/from Cuba, El Salvador, United States, United Kingdom, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and China only opens 24 hours before the departure of the flight.

If you're travelling from Morocco, Egypt, Maldives or Albania, you must go to the check-in desk before going through security, even if you have already checked in online. However, some airports don't offer online check-in, so in those cases you will have to get your boarding pass at the airport. Remember that our check-in service is free at any airport.

You can get your boarding pass online up to 1 hour before the scheduled time of departure (90 minutes in Lagos and San José and 180 minutos in Caracas).

Follow these steps to check in online:

1. Choose one of the two search options.

  • Booking code or ticket number. You will need to enter the Booking code or record locator and the passenger's surname as shown in the booking or record locator.
  • Access Iberia Plus from your email or card number and password if you made your booking as an Iberia Plus member.

 2. Select the flight(s) for which you want to check in.
Choose your seat for free if included in your fare, or choose it for a lower price than at the airport. You can check the seat selection terms and conditions according to the class you are flying in. If you don't have any preferences and you haven’t selected a seat prior to check-in, you will be assigned a random one for free when you get your boarding pass. Check that all the information is correct before the boarding passes are issued.

3. Issue the boarding pass.
You can print the boarding pass from a PDF document or receive it by email. You need 1 copy of the boarding pass per flight or flight segment. If you have an iPhone or iPad with version iOS6 or higher, you can easily download your mobile boarding passes to your Passbook wallet.

Why can't I check in online?

If your itinerary only includes flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum, you can select your seat and get your boarding pass from the moment you book. If your fare doesn't include seat selection, you can still book it in advance for less than you would pay at the airport and get your boarding pass. Alternatively, you can wait until 24 hours before the departure of your flight and then check in.
Remember, check-in for flights to/from Cuba, El Salvador, United States, United Kingdom, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and China only opens 24 hours before the departure of the flight.

You cannot check in online and must therefore check in at the airport in the following cases:

  • The departure airport does not permit online check-in.

  • You are flying with a different operator. We'll redirect you to the relevant website if the operator is American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Latam or Vueling. In this case neither will you be able to add extra bags through Iberia.com.

  • In the case of a special service: if you are travelling with a pet, you have booked a service for unaccompanied minors, or you were unable to prove your resident status, you can check in online but you will have to collect your boarding pass at the airport. In all other cases, you can only check in at the airport.

  • You are travelling to/from USA, UK or China: the authorities in these countries may not allow you to check in online.

  • For bookings with an Air Shuttle fare for more than one person.

If the message "Your booking does not permit online check-in” appears when you are trying to check in and none of the above exceptions apply, try again in the 24 hours before the departure of the flight. If you still can't get your boarding pass you will have to check in at the airport.

I didn't get my boarding passes but in online check-in I appear as checked in. What do I do?

If you haven't got your boarding passes but in online check-in you appear as checked in, you can request a duplicate pass from your computer or phone. Log in with your details to online check-in and at the bottom where it says "What do you want to do?", select "Print boarding passes". You can then select the boarding pass format and how you want to receive it.

Remember, if you forget your boarding passes you can either get them at the check-in machines or request a copy at the check-in desks.

Cancel boarding pass online

Once your online boarding pass has been issued, you CANNOT cancel it. If you don't go to the boarding gate you will be registered as a no-show passenger and the change and refund conditions for the fare you purchased will apply.

Mobile boarding pass

The mobile boarding card is a 2D code (QR) that contains all the flight details. It's faster to identify and it reduces paper consumption.
When you check in from the website, you can choose the format to receive it on your phone. You can also download our App to your phone and get your boarding pass there for a paperless boarding experience.

When you check in, place your phone over the mobile boarding pass reader, making sure that the screen shows the 2D image. Wait a few seconds for the reader to identify it.

You can use your mobile boarding pass at the check-in desk, security filter and boarding gate.

My ticket is in 'Check-in not available' status. Why?

Since there may be several reasons, click "Check-in not possible" to find out which it is. A window will pop up explaining you why you can't continue with check-in.

What do the letters SBY-STL on my boarding pass mean?

The letters SBY appear on a boarding pass when your boarding is subject to space and dependent on the waiting list at the airport to confirm your seat.
