Unique Milanese atmosphere
Milan nights may not be the longest, but the atmosphere is spectacular and if you know the right place to choose, you'll have a long and lively night out. To start the night, the Navigli and Brera districts are your best picks. If you fancy a bite to eat while you have your first drink, both places boast a great atmosphere. From 12 at night or 1 in the morning, you should make your way to the city's discos. We recommend fun and popular two places. The first is called Alacatraz Milano and is located on 25, Via Valtellina. get their early to avoid the queues. The other is called Hollywood and is found on 15, Corso Como, in the heart of the centre. It is also hugely popular and has a great atmosphere. Both close at 4 a.m., when all the city's nightspots close.

In the heart of the Isola neighbourhood, next to Porta Garibaldi is the Blue Note pub. This restaurant, also present in New York, Tokyo and Nagoya, opened its doors in Milan decades ago and, since then, it has become one of the references for live music in the city. Especially jazz music. Many jazz stars from all over the world have performed here and each day, you can see prestigious local and national bands. It's a charming place to dine or have a drink. The plan to dine while enjoying one of these concerts after a long day's walking through Milan is one of the luxuries offered by this city. Unless you want to see a particular concert, we recommend that you visit it during the week as it's less busy, although at the weekends the atmosphere is electric.
Il Gattopardo

Note down its address. This place is situated on Via Piero Della Francesca. It's easy to spot is, just look out for a church. In the heart of the city's old district you'll find Il Gattopardo, which of course, is one of the city's best known and popular haunts. Years ago, this church was deconsecrated and was subsequently converted into a nightclub. It's no cheap night out, but it's worth a visit to see its interior. The dance floors are situated on the central nave and around it. It is a fun atmosphere and is open until well into the night (this means 4 in the morning in Milan). Also, Il Gattopardo is reputed for being one of Milan's best places for cocktails, so come and find out for yourself.

Canal district
The Porta Ticinese borders the well-known Navigli neighbourhood. Both are canal districts. However, the first does not enjoy the same popularity. Its decline in the past has earned it the reputation of a troubled neighbourhood of Milan and was largely ignored, despite being on the limit of Navigli. Nevertheless, it was regenerated few decades ago and now it has a whole new look and vibe. In contrast to its mid-twentieth century image, now it has established itself as the city's most avant garde neighbourhood. Artists, designers and photographers come here to open their shops. Along its streets, you'll find a mixture of unprecedented art and innovation in Milan. It is also worth a visit at night. If you've dined in the Navigili area, you can come here for your first drink.

The Brera neighbourhood has won the title "bohemian neighbourhood" of Milan although is it also nicknamed "Luxury Bohemia". The world's most famous supper
The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the world's most famous works of art. And it's in Milan. It's found in the Santa María delle Grazie convent (on the piazza with the same name). Thousand of tourists and locals flock here to admire this work which was completed in 1498. Many legends have been born around this place, as the convent was practically destroyed during Napoleon's bombing and the Second World War. Despite this, the work remained intact. It is inexpensive to visit this work; admission costs around 10 euros, but you must make your reservation in advance. Due to the work's conservation measures, its visits are highly controlled. Anyway, seize the opportunity to see Da Vinci's masterpiece during your visit to Milan.

Painting the town red until 4 am!
In Milan, there are two important areas waiting to be discovered every weekend night (in the week the atmosphere isn't as good, but Thursdays are good for mingling). This is the Navigli area or around La Galeria de Brera. Here you'll find a great variety of restaurants, pubs and bars where you can start off your night out. For enjoying a decent dinner or downing your first tipple, both are good options. The Navigli district, the city's oldest, is more geared towards the youth set. Around Galeria de Brera, you'll find the coolest places and many hosting live music. In the surrounding streets you'll find discos and clubs to prolong your night. Bear in mind that Milan's nightlife normally lasts until 4 in the morning when most of the discos close.
San Siro Stadium
AC Milan or Inter Milan? Rivalry guaranteed at the San Siro for the two legendary Milanese clubs.
Mecca of Italian football
Every weekends, thousands of people walk in a westerly direction. Milan is a little emptier but the San Siro stadium is packed to the rafters with either AC Milan or Inter Milan fans. And the city comes to a standstill when the two clubs come head-to-head. Visiting this stadium means visiting one of the footballing meccas, the ground, also known as the Giuseppe Meazza in honour of the Italian forward who died in 1980; it pays homage to the sport. The trophies and awards from both clubs, for which they compete year after year, are shown in different areas of the stadium. As you can imagine, the rivalry between the fellow citizens is tremendous, as are the games that you can see on this pitch. If you're a fan, make sure you take the opportunity to watch a game.
Opera at la Scala Theatre
All the stars of the opera world have performed here. If you can, watch one of its amazing shows!
A total experience
This building is one of the world's leading theatres. It takes the name of the church that previously occupied this place. Its construction was completed in 1778 on number 2, Via Filodrammatici, under the name Nuovo Regio Ducal Teatro alla Scala as a fire destroyed the previous theatre. Since it opened, its stage has welcomed performances from the world's stars: Montserrat Caballé, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti and strangely enough, even Marilyn Monroe performed here. Despite its rather sober exterior, its interior has become one of the most beautiful and luxurious places in Milan. If you get the chance, attend one of its shows. You can buy tickets for around 25 euros and as well as watching a spectacular show, you will visit one of the buildings fundamental to Milan's history.
The Navigli district
A pleasantly different neighbourhood thanks to its old canals and endless markets.
The oldest neighbourhood
The city's oldest neighbourhood. And it is famous for having a different charm. When you arrive, you will recognise the old canals that are still functioning. This whole neighbourhood has many canals (the most famous is on Sunday mornings and is Milan's most popular). But the neighbourhood holds particular appeal at nightfall. It turns into a meeting place for young people. Masses of bars, pubs and terraces open and people start to congregate on the streets. In fact, in summer, many people come here to meet, order wine and sit chatting and drinking on the walls of the canals. Seeing the sunset over the city of Milan here is unparalleled.
Porta Venezia

Next to Corso Buenos Aires, one of Milan's main arteries, is Porta Venezia, one of the city gates. It was previously known as the Porta Orientale. From medieval times, the cities of the Roman Empire defended themselves from invasions by fortifying their boundaries. Therefore, various gates were needed into the enclave, the remains of which we see today. In this case, it used to be called the Porta Orientale because it indicated the direction. In the nineteenth century, people started calling it Porta Venezia because it indicated the way to Venice. Now it is a historic memory of the strength of the Empire in times of conquest. This type of measure maintained world hegemony for centuries and centuries. Nowadays, Porta Venezia is one of the most tourist-frequented sites and a photo is a must. Continuing on from here, you have Corso Buenos Aires from where you can continue your trip to Milan.
Central Station
It was Mussolini who made this into a grand and powerful station. You might not have been there, but it will certainly ring a bell...
Important and monumental station
This Central Station was built in 1931 to replace the previous major station. This project, completed under the influence of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, became one of the largest and most most monumental stations in all of Europe. It is said that the initial project was much smaller and simpler, but it coincided with the arrival of the dictator Mussolini who demanded the construction of a much bigger station as a demonstration of strength and power. Beyond the reasons that gave rise to its construction, it is nowadays one of the city's most important buildings. In fact, its inside have featured in many films, adverts and photographs. It is located on Piazza Luigi di Savoia, 24, although you can arrive by train or bus and get off at the station itself.
Lago de Garda
Impressive lake surrounded by fishing villages such as Sirmione: its medieval castle and Roman villa have turned it into absolute star.
An hour from Milan
If you have the time and would like to get to know Milan's surroundings, you should visit Lake Garda. It is the largest lake in Milan and is just one hour from the city. The place is truly impressive. Around this lake are numerous little fishing villages, notably Sirmione. This little town is a small peninsula that juts out into the lake and has a medieval castle and a Roman villa. Without a doubt this is one of the main tourist destinations, especially in summertime, when you'll find it teeming with visitors. If you fancy a quieter option and you have a car, we recommend you drive until you reach one of the other nearby towns. Choose one that you like and visit it. Whether it be for its coves or for its food, they're worth visiting.
Visit to Bergamo
A small citadel divided into two: the lower city and the upper city. Start your visit with the upper city, which is much more interesting.
Another Lombardy treasure
The city is of Bergamo is another one of Lombardy's jewels. This small citadel is located 60 metres to the northeast of Milan. This former enclave is divided into two: the upper city and the lower city. The first is the old part, surrounded by an ancient wall and inside it stand all the villa's historic buildings. Almost all of the lower city was built in the twentieth century. Both parts are connected by a funicular. Both areas have their appeal, but the upper city is most interesting from a historical point of view. Its cobbled streets lead to the Piazza Vecchia where from where all paths lead. In the centre of the square is the Fonatana Contarini which reminds us that this hamlet was, many years ago, dominated by Venice.

An unusual visit.
This may be an unusual and rather unsettling visit, but a visit to Milan's Monumental Cemetery will leave you open-mouthed. It is considered the biggest funeral monument after the pyramids of Egypt. The decor and the artistic works that surround this site have transformed it into an open-air museum that is far removed from the preconceived idea of a cemetery. There are various areas that you should visit. Firstly, the famedio, located at the main entrance, is where Italian celebrities are buried. The ossario, located in the central area, is reserved for the oldest tombs. From this terrace you can see the whole cemetery. Afterwards, walk freely and observe the decorations. You'll have seen nothing like it. However, keep calm and silent as it still needs to be treated as a cemetery.

Just like a picture postcard, the city of Pavia appears on the banks of the Ticino river like a paradise on earth. It's a magical city which has passed from civilisation to civilisation since the Roman Empire. Situated near to the river, it has the right conditions for farming and cattle rearing. Because of this, the town has been conquered many times. Nowadays, it is a haven of peace and tranquillity a few kilometres from the north of Milan. It's a small town, so can be visited in a day. All of the activity is based around Piazza de la Victoria, in the heart of Pavia. From here, walk to the old town but make sure you go as far as the river. Lago di Como
The region's third largest lake awaits you with open arms. You'll love its crystal-clear waters.
In the heart of Lombardy
45 kilometres north of Milan. Deep in the heart of Lombardy. Here lies Lake Como which takes its place from the town which surrounds it. This little town on the river banks continues to focus on agriculture, fishing and handicrafts. But also tourism. It is a charming place in which to get lost during the day. It's best to visit in the summer as, although it will be packed full of tourists, you can walk down to the many secluded coves that are formed in the rock walls and take a refreshing dip in the lake. You're guaranteed to love it. This is the region's third biggest lake and its crystal-clear waters will allow you to see the stones at the bottom which seem to be waiting for you.
Giardini di Villa Reale

A pleasant place
This paradise in the city is located at number 16 Via Palestro. But you'll recognise it as soon as you see the giant palace that crowns the area and that once was the residence of emperor Napolein and his wife Josephine. They moved here and built the surrounding gardens. Nowadays, it is one of Milan's most beautiful places and it's worth your while, escaping one sunny afternoon to visit the palace, tour its gardens at leisure and lie under a centuries-old tree while you admire the surroundings. The gardens (ike Sempione Park) are built in imitation of the famous English gardens and the building is the finest representation of neoclassicism. Concerts and opera performances are normally held in summer. This is an absolute must if you're in the city.
Piazza San Babila
A lovely square, perfect for a quiet summer evening dinner in the open air.
A haven of peace.
The San Babila Plaza takes its name from the small but famous red-bricked church that overlooks it. Despite having few details about its history - it's unknown when it was built and by whom, only that it was rebuilt in the ninth century - is one of the city's most important churches. The piazza is located next to the Piazza del Duomo, which hogs the limelight somewhat. Nevertheless, this haven of peace in the heart of the city is one of Milan's most charming places. When the sun sets, the flow of visitors diminishes, the terraces start opening and the gush of the fountain marking the centre of the square will accompany you if you're there. It's a great spot for outdoor dining and street musicians liven up summer evenings.
Sempione Park
A verdant paradise on the outskirts of Milan, ideal for resting after a hard day at work or sightseeing.
47 green hectares
Next to Sforzcesco Castle, one of Milan's most important monuments, is Sempione Park. This is the city's green lung spanning over 47 hectares. It is a paradise on the outskirts of the city. Inside, there are endless are home to shelter little groves, sports facilities, football field and a fabulous lake for cooling down on hot summer days. Sempione Park was built in 1893 and despite a large part of the areas being built in homage to Napoleon, such as the Arena Civica and the Arco della Pace, it is surely one of the favourite places by the Milanese to rest after a hard day's work. You can also often see improvised musical and street theatre performances throughout the park.
Viale Fauch or the shoe market
Although you can find whatever you need here, this market is famous for its scandalously low-priced shoes.
Do you need new shoes?
We will reveal one of Milan's secrets. This little market situated on Viale Fauch conceals a wide range of products from the best of Italian fashion at market prices. Here you can find clothes and products from the main brands but it's particularly well-known for shoes. As you know, Italian shoes are the world's most celebrated. And also very expensive. Well not to worry; here you can find a great variety of shoes at bargain prices. It's just a matter of perusing and asking the stallholders. So every Saturday, a mixture of clothes stalls, street vendors and traditional Milanese food to takeaway transform this neighbourhood and street into a must-visit in the city of Milan. It's also a good spot for souvenir shopping.
Fiera di Sinigaglia Market
It may seem a lie, but it's not! In Milan it's not all about luxury, there are markets too!
The typical market
Forget all that you ever knew about fashion and Milan. Forget that it is a city of exclusive brands. Forget that the world's fashion is invented in the workshops of these streets. Every Saturday morning without fail, stalls are set up along the wharf of Viale d'Annunizio ready for the Fiera di Sinigaglia market. This is the polar opposite of the luxury and exclusivity for which the city is best known. Here you can find anything. From Italian footwear (generally from previous seasons), record collections and coffee-makers to African handicrafts. Here anything is possible. It's just a matter of sifting through the goods. One thing is for sure, the atmosphere that pervades these docks every week is worth experiencing. The neighbours of the whole city gather to buy or sell all kinds of bric-a-brac. Here trendiness has been left on the sideline.

You're reached the zone of offers, second-hand and top-brand outlets. Corso de Buenos Aires is one of the city's busiest shopping areas. It starts on Piazza de Venecia and moves away from the city centre. Although this area is not quite as spectacular as the rest of the area known as the Quadrangle of Fashion, in the heart of the city, Corso de Buenos Aires is still an important shopping area where you can find tons of good deals, especially for shoes and other typically Italian products. For this reason, we recommend a visit. Maybe because its further out than the other areas, or because it's not as monumental as Via Torino, but here you can save a lot of money if you spend time visiting its shops.

Via Torino is one of the most important streets on the shopping route. It connects to the Piazza del Duomo and Porta Ticinese. It is one of Milan's historic centres as well as one of the city's best maintained. There's always a great atmosphere to be soaked up along this street. It is often full of young people, thanks to its wide selection of casual shops and affordable prices which are geared mostly towards this age group. Brands such as Zara and Diesel have opened up on this street, setting it apart from the exclusivity and sophistication of the neighbouring avenues. It is one of the main and most important shopping streets in Milan. Start on the Piazza del Duomo and finish on the Piazza de San Babila. We recommend you mooch around this route, and, at the start, visit the popular Rinascente, one of Milan's most important department stores. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Milan's first and most important shopping centre. This is one of the city's most popular and important buildings. The city of fashion has an imaginary quadrangle where the city's most renowned shops meet. This block is made up of Via Montenapoleone, Via Alessandro Manzoni, Via della Spiga and Via Sant ´Andrea. Within these streets you'll find one of fashion's most influential neighbourhoods. The windows are adorned with the outfits found on the world's leading catwalks. The entire neighbourhood has a distinct air. The main fashion designers and brands are based here, from Louis Vuitton to Valentino. Along these well-arranged streets, you'll often spot public personalities involved in the fashion sector. Models, actors and sports stars are regulars in the queues in these stores. If you're a fashion fan, you'll already be familiar with the so-called Quadrangle of Fashion. If not, we still recommend you take a walk down these streets, it is one of Milan's most pleasant and well-maintained areas.

Milanese chocolate culture
If you like chocolate, the city has some hidden gems for you. Although it's not it's most famous aspect, Milan has a considerable chocolate culture. Its best known for its ice cream, of course. Any area of Italy has great ice cream, but this city is in a league of its own To try them, you must go to Choco Cult gelateria on Via Michelangelo Buonarroti. You're likely to want to come back for more once you try it. The counter of this shop contains a broad selection of chocolate ice cream, so it may take you a while to make your choice. Further north, next to the Park Sempione, you can go and rest while eating something in Shockolat Maggi, on Via Giovanni Boccaccio. This is a chocolate ice cream specialist, but it also offers a selection of cakes which are famous in the city.

This is one of Milan's best-kept secrets. You'll find it while walking along Via Santa Radegonda, a little to the north of the Duomo. This is an ideal spot to visit when you're in the area but you don't want to spend too much time eating. Here you'll find one of Milan's greatest gastronomic treasures. Panzerottis are empanadas with a pizza base, quite similar to calzones,are known almost solely by Milaneses. So make sure you pay it a visit as it does the city's most popular panzerottis. When you come, you're likely to find a queue of people waiting to order, but it's well worth the wait. As well as its legendary panzerottis, the place also offers an assortment of other types of empanadas and sweets.

This is a popular place where you can indulge in knowledge and history. You may just need to visit more than once. At the foot of Sempione Park, you'll not only find the historic castle, but inside houses the city's most important museum complexes. Firstly, the castle contains the Ancient Art Museum. Displayed inside are important Medieval and Renaissance paintings, frescos and sculptures. Among others, there is the Rondanini Pietà by Miguel Ángel or the Codice Trivulziano by Leonardo Da Vinci. And this is joined by the Archaeological Museum which reviews the evolutions in different countries in the Lombardy region. The most impressive of all is the Egyptian collection. Leonardo Da Vinci Science and Technology Museum

The most curious of you will find it hard to leave. The museum occupies three buildings spread between Via San Vittore and the Olona, near to the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Vital art museum.
Maximise your visit by coming when the weather is fine. As well as visiting a vital art museum, it is the perfect excuse to stroll through the Indro Montanelli Gardens and visit the Villa Real. This popular residence where it is located is an attraction in itself. However, it did house the Modern Art Gallery in the early twentieth century. Today, walking through these rooms is essential if you're interested in art from recent centuries. It is divided into two areas. The first houses pictorial works and sculptures from the most relevant eighteenth and nineteenth century Milanese artists. Farufini Frederick, Francesco Hayez, and Marchesi Pompeo are some of the artists on show. In addition, there are some twentieth century international names such as Picasso or Van Gogh, divided between the Gallery itself and the nearby Contemporary Arts Pavillion.

Come here when you feel like submerging yourself in another era. The important works exhibited here must be seen with nineteenth century eyes. A few steps north of the Duomo, on Via Gerolamo Morone, you will come across the former residence of aristocrat, Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli. When de died in 1879, he bequeathed his vast art collection to the Brera Academy. Today, this is one of the city's most interesting museums. The primary reason is the arrangement of its rooms. This visit has such special appeal as the original décor of the residence and the ambience in each room work in harmony with what is one display. Also, as well as works of the Italian Renaissance, there are rooms such as the Armoury, tapestry displays, clocks and porcelain. The museum therefore goes beyond art, revealing an insight into different eras in Italy.
Pinacoteca Ambrosiana
Caravaggio, Botticelli, Da Vinci… These rooms dedicated to painting and sculpture and a luxurious library constitute an essential stop on your Milan tour.
With a light of it own.
Among the city's broad artistic and historical offering, this place shines with a light of its own. It was founded at the beginning of the seventeenth century. Federico Borromeo decided to establish his gallery next to the palace of the Ambrosiana Library to provide an educational aspect for the artists and intellectuals. Art students flock here to take down references from the great medieval authors. The building is surrounded by Via dell'Ambrosiana, a few steps from the Duomo. Inside, the visit may take some time. Caravaggio, Botticelli or Barocci, among others, rest here. A library adjoins these twenty-four exhibition rooms. If you're an admirer of Leonardo Da Vinci, this visit is a must. Among all the volumes and manuscripts by different authors, a considerable part of his Codex Atlanticus is kept here.
Palazzo dell'Arengario
Neon lights for this fundamentally Italian art museum focusing on impressionism and futurism.
The city's newest museum.
Here you will encounter a stark contrast. This twentieth century art museum is located within the Palazzo dell'Arengario of the piazza del Duomo in the city's historic centre. You'll recognise it instantly if you come at night as its neon lights are ablaze on the upper floor, giving the square a special touch. The centre dedicates itself exclusively to the Novecento Museum, which is also the city's youngest museum. It was inaugurated in 2010 with the aim of broadening the city's offering beyond the medieval. Coming here you can see works by internationally famous artists such as Picasso, Laurens and Braque. However, the exhibitions are geared towards Italian art from the last century. Faced with the dominance of Middle Ages Art, this is the place to take a look at impressionism and futurism.
Palazzo di Brera
Thirty-one rooms accommodate a large bouquet of Italian classical paintings. Well worth a visit.
Endless treasures.
Just entering the building is worth the effort. You'll find it at the end of Via Brera in the historic quarter. Once you enter its inner courtyard, you might miss the presence of benches. This is a place which invites you to spend time in the open air among the columns and statues. However, it is best to keep walking to experience the treasures guarded within the building. The palace has been a cultural centre since its beginnings in the sixteenth century. It was managed initially by the Jesuits and connected to the School of Fine Arts. Around 1882, it set out an independent art gallery. Today you can enter its thirty-one rooms to observe many of the most important classical paintings. El Greco, Tintoretto, Tiziano and Rembrandt are just some of the names featured.

Circo di Roma?
Arriving way after the famous Circo di Roma, and despite being an example of modern construction (dating back to the 19th century), this construction surely drew its inspiration from its Roman counterpart. It is one of the sites that you're sure to pass while walking in Sempione Park. It was built to host all kinds of shows and activities, from sports events to concerts. The most striking event held here was the naval battle representation. which meant the entire place had to be filled with water. When you go, you must bear in mind that it's not always possible for tourists to visit at any time. There is a schedule which changes depending on the season and the events taking place inside. Try to catch whatever is on during your visit.
Piazza Mercanti
A solitary and peaceful place that will transport you back to Medieval times.
A great place to unwind.
When you enter this square, you will be immediately transported back to another time. It is worth taking time out here to relax when you visit the historic centre. From the Duomo, deviate a little towards the west. Look for the Via de Mercanti to find the entrance as the piazza is surrounded by various medieval buildings. You'll recognise it as soon as you enter; it feels like you've been transported to another place. You may find it deserted, with the sound of the traffic drowned out in the background. If so, you can rest for a while away from the hustle and bustle of the city and admire the buildings. Here you'll find the Palazzo della Ragione that was built as a court house in the thirteenth century, the Scuole Palatina which once was the city's most important university and the Casa di Panigarola where many ducal decrees were drawn up. This is a place where time seems to have stood still.

Milan's Eiffel Tower
You can come here to view the city from a privileged point. The tower is one of Milan's modern emblems, as it dates back to 1933 and is considered one of the twentieth century's major architectural works. Popularly known as Milan's Eiffel Tower, it was also built for an international art exhibition. Although it is of a much smaller height, you can climb to the top of its one hundred and eight metres to reach its viewpoint. For those who don't suffer from vertigo, the view will not disappoint, as from up above you 'll enjoy a panoramic view of the whole city. The visit is inexpensive, but you can only spend five to ten minutes there. It's worth knowing that the tower closes during periods of bad weather. However, incorporate it with a stroll through the Sempione park which is en route.
Villa Real
Fancy losing yourself here for a while? Its English gardens are perfect for this; take a look and find out.
Neoclassical Milan icon.
Come here to stroll and explore. Firstly, the building is one of the city's main neoclassical icons. Secondly, its English gardens are the ideal spot for losing yourself for a while. The Villa is found on Via Palestro, down from the Giardini Indro Montanelli. Historic figures such as Napoleon and General Radetzky have lived here since it was built at the end of the eighteenth century. If you're an architecture lover, spend some time walking around it to admire its façade. If not, you'll still enjoy its exterior as its gardens are pleasant for resting while admiring the Villa. For those interested in the period, real treasure awaits. Its interior can be visited any day of the year. Inside, history-laden décor and the Modern Art Gallery await.
San Lorenzo Maggiore Church
Although it has a no-frills image, it is still impressive with its ancient Byzantine elements.
Simply modest.
When you come here, you see the origins of the city from a more modest point of view. Compared with the other buildings of high aesthetic appeal, this church stands out for its simplicity. Yet it is the perfect spot for relaxing a while as it is one of the most peaceful spots in the historic centre. To reach it, take the Via Torino from the Duomo, meeting up with the Torso de Porta Ticinese. Observe the exterior first. Built at the end of the fourth century, this Byzantine construction is one of the city's oldest. You'll notice that although it isn't weighed down with embellishments, it has an imposing presence. You can visit inside and take your time, as it's most likely that you'll be there alone. Don't forget to visit the park tucked away to the rear of the church.

Gothic and Renaissance
This unparalleled place is worth visiting for countless reasons. To reach it, take Corso Magenta under Sempione Park and walk westwards. You will then come across the small piazza where the church stands. You will recognise it instantly as its façade is one of the city's most unusual. Its construction started in the Gothic period and finished in the Renaissance. Once you're there, don't hesitate to take a peek inside. Walking through its archways and cloisters, you can sense the old age of the building, but the greatest treasure is revealed in the Cenacolo Viniciano Refectory. Make your way there to view Leonardo Da Vinci's famous fresco, The Last Supper. This masterpiece by the Italian painter was started at the end of the fifteenth century and although it has required some restoration work, it can still be admired here today.
The Duomo
If you're an art aficionado, you might end up spending an entire day at the Duomo.
Impressive cathedral
You may have seen a great deal already, but this cathedral is one of the most impressive sights around. Observing the details both inside and out can take many hours. The site is an authentic museum for any art fan. Inside, many important works of art and monuments are housed. Its façade has undergone five hundred years of construction, since it began in the fourteenth century until Napoleon completed it in the nineteenth. However, the finishing touches are still being added today. Depending on how much of an art buff you are, a visit here could take a whole day. But don't forget to take the time to climb to the roof. From up above, on one side you can admire the incredible architectural details and on the other, take in unparalleled views of the city.

A visit to the Duomo when you're in the city is essential for various reasons. One of them is the Royal Palace. Out of all of Milan's rich historical heritage, the Royal Palace is an example of renovation and activism. Its neoclassical façade is owed to the Habsburgs, although its origin dates back even earlier. As in the twelfth century, the old town hall stood there. It was then home to the regents and the seat of the city's government. These days, the building hosts exhibitions and displays. Although the majority of the neoclassical motifs inside the building were lost during Second World War bombings, it's well worth a visit. Perhaps you can make the most of you visit by checking what's on the agenda. Once inside, a visit to its inner courtyard is a must. You'll find that even with the renovations, the place makes you travel back in time.
Arco della Pace
An imposing building set in peaceful surroundings where you can enjoy truly magical sunsets.
A Napoleonic idea.
Take time to come here when you feel like a relaxing stroll. Once in the Sempione park, you'll lose yourself among its little pathways. If possible, come while it's still light and stay until sundown. You'll make it out from afar when walking, but as you approach it, you'll see just how striking it really is. Up close, it's stunning. This is at least what Napoleon intended when he ordered its construction in honour of his victories. However, it remained unfinished as he was defeated before its completion. Franz I of Austria decided to finish it in the name of European Peace. Even if you're not an art fanatic, you'll still be amazed by its marble motifs. The arch offers stunning photo opportunities as the sun goes down.
Sforza Castle
This ancient building today houses Milan's most important museums. Utter luxury.
Guarding over Sempione Park.
Here many of the city's most valuable treasures are hiding. You will find it guarding over Sempione Park. To reach it, take the metro to Cairoli Castello. A few steps away you have the Duomo; ideal for combining both visits in one day, although here you might find yourself lingering quite some time. This is one of the oldest and most iconic buildings in Milan. Since the fourteenth century, the castle has been used as a military barracks, a Ducal Palace or as a city defence. But today it plays host to the city's most important museums. Reach it by strolling leisurely along Via Dante. You will soon see the Filarete Tower rising up behind the Garibaldi monument. This is well worth a visit, especially at night. Then you will see the façade and the fountain in front of the entrance lit up.
