We accept the challenge of sustainable waste management
We have joined the 5 through 2025 strategy promoted by IAG Group (International Airlines Group), which aims to reduce waste generation and also maximise the recycling of what has already been generated, based on the three Rs of circular economy: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The goal is to move from a linear consumption model to a circular model that allows us to reduce our environmental impact.
WE REDUCE
resource consumption to the bare minimum
WE SAVE UP TO 640 tonnes of paper per year
on board our aircraft thanks to the press and digital magazine service, PressReader.
We promote cross-cutting digitisation and encourage online processes: from booking tickets to issuing boarding passes.
WE HAVE REDUCED 30 tonnes of plastic waste in VIP rooms and more than 2,000 kg on board
by reducing plastic packaging in our products and choosing reusable and recyclable packaging.
Our aim is to eliminate 100% of single-use plastics by 2025.
WE REDUCED food waste by 30%
encouraging passengers to choose their menus in advance.
We continue to expand our screening services, such as Pre-Order, to load essential food on the plane, avoiding food waste.
WE REUSE
to extend the useful life of products
At the height of the pandemic, we donated to hospitals items that we usually offer our passengers on board.
WE DONATED
45,000
cutlery sets
9,800
duvets
2,500
pillows
2,300
full toiletry bags
20,000
hygiene items
6,400
surgical gowns
We also donated to the NGO Mano a mano duvets, toiletry bags and crockery for projects in which the NGO collaborates in Latin America.
WE RECYCLE
to transform products into new raw materials
WE HAVE CUT DOWN waste by 12%
per passenger:
5,000 tonnes per year
thanks to recycling promoted by the Zero Cabin Waste project.
We launched Zero Cabin Waste in 2016 to create a sustainable waste management model for cabin waste generated during our flights.
