How to book assistance at the airport

In line with European Union Regulation 1107/2006, the provision of ground assistance to persons with reduced mobility is the responsibility of airport managers.
All airports operate an assistance service for persons with reduced mobility (PRM) who need special attention. If this is your case, when you reach the airport contact the assistance service or airline and they will tell you how to get to the meeting point.

How to request assistance

There are three ways to request assistance, from the time you buy your ticket until 48 hours before you travel:

When you buy your ticket online

When you buy your ticket on our website, select your flights and confirm them with the red button Fill in passenger details, which will take you to the Passenger information page. Enter your first name and surname in the boxes, and just below them you will see the option Special needs passenger. Tick the box on the right to see the different assistance options. Select the one you need and confirm it at the bottom of the page by clicking Continue.

By managing your booking online

Once you have bought your ticket, you can add your special needs in the Manage your booking section. Log in with your surname and booking code, then click Manage your booking. Next, click Passengers (either in the column on the left or through the module on the right) and you will see the Special needs option. Click Add to open the different alternatives, select the one you want and then confirm it by clicking Accept.

Keep in mind...

  • You can request free assistance if you are unable to get around the airport without help due to any physical, cognitive or sensory accessibility requirements, either temporarily (e.g., pregnancy or broken leg) or permanently.

  • Book the assistance service when purchasing your ticket or at least 48 hours prior to flight departure.

  • Be sure to get to the airport at least two hours before the departure of your flight.

And for the connection between several flights...

  • When you buy your ticket make sure there is at least two and a half hours between both flights. You will also need to allow more time if you have to change airport in the transit city.

  • If all the flights on your trip are operated by the Iberia Group (Iberia, Iberia Express or Air Nostrum), the assistance service will be automatically booked on all legs when you request it.

  • If your flight has an Iberia code but is operated by another airline, find out whether there are any special requirements, especially if the other airline doesn't belong to the European Union. You can do this on their website or by contacting their Customer Service.

Do I need a companion?

In general, airlines will accept any person with reduced mobility (PRM) who can understand and carry out the safety instructions by themselves and who doesn't interfere with in-flight safety or the activities of the crew.
Otherwise, you may need a companion and, on specific occasions, health personnel with the capacity to apply the care you need.
Travelling with a companion is mandatory if you need assistance to:

  • Get to an emergency exit.

  • Communicate in any way with the crew about safety matters.

  • Unfasten or fasten your safety belt.

  • Carry out basic physiological needs.

  • Access the life jacket or oxygen mask and put them on.

Except in special cases, your companion must be at least 18 years old and in full possession of their faculties.

With you at all times

When you reach the airport, contact the assistance service and they will assign an agent to you. The agent will take you to the check-in desk and help you with the formalities, stay with you at security control and escort you to the departure area. If you have requested it, they will also escort you to your seat on the plane.

When your flight lands, once all the other passengers have disembarked and agent will come and pick you up and help you through the security filter. If you have checked baggage into the hold, they will escort you to baggage claim and make sure that everything is in order.
