Nightlife in New York offers everything your heart could desire. They don’t call this ‘the city that never sleeps’ for nothing, and the reasons for this are obvious. With the countless gigantic illuminated signs that surround the streets, you could almost believe that the sun never sets at Times Square. This is where you will find all kinds of restaurants and pubs, which serve food until the early hours of the morning. After dinner, your options are endless. Every neighbourhood offers something different. The Soho district is a great option, as its streets are filled with some of the city’s trendiest bars and nightclubs, such as Webster Hall (on 125th East and 11th). This is one of the city’s most famous nocturnal hangouts and normally closes at 4 am.
Baseball in NYC
Are you a Mets or a Yankees supporter? Experiencing a baseball game is like being in an American movie.
A truly American sport.
Baseball, along with basketball, is the most important sport in the United States, with a gigantic fan base. If you have never seen a game, your visit to this city is the perfect excuse to do so. There are two main (rival) teams in New York, namely the Yankees and the Mets. The Yankees play in an enormous stadium in the Bronx neighbourhood, while the Mets’ home is City Fields in Queens. Choose your team, head straight to their stadium and get ready for a real show. You have probably seen it in many films, but it is very popular to buy food while you watch the game, such as peanuts, nachos, hot dogs and much more. Prepare for an all-American experience. Are you ready?
New Jersey
Many people work in Manhattan and sleep in New Jersey, including none other than Bruce Springsteen!
The commuter state.
New Jersey is the adjacent state to New York, but it is so close that it has become a commuter city to the capital of the world. Every day, thousands of people cross the River Hudson to come and work in Manhattan. Thousands of people also cross in the other direction to visit the city! Tourism has become a very important part of New Jersey’s economy, particularly in the summer, when many Americans and foreigners flock to its beaches to escape from the stifling heat of the city. Many famous artists come from this city and still have a house here, such as rock superstar Bruce Springsteen, who still resides here. Crowds of inquisitive fans visit his old house on West End Court Street, where he is said to have written his famous album, ‘Born to Run’ in 1975.
The Bronx
Although parts of this neighbourhood do not have the best reputation, it is filled with interesting sights. A guided bus tour is an excellent way to discover this area.
A borough with an edge.
Throughout the years, parts of this 'borough' or district have gained a reputation of being amongst New York’s most dangerous neighbourhoods. A mixture of middle class and more poverty-stricken areas, this is where many ethnic groups arriving in New York took refuge, creating what became known as the ‘ghetto’. This has featured in countless films, such as Oliver Stone’s ‘Wall Street’, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions. This area is also home to other popular attractions, including the Yankees stadium, the Bronx Zoo and the house and museum of cursed poet, Edgar Allen Poe. Although this neighbourhood has become safer in the past years, we recommend that you only visit on an organised tour, so that you can see the sights both comfortably and safely.
Brooklyn
Every New Yorker's fantasy home, far from the hubbub of the city.
A neighbourhood with its own identity.
As you probably already know, New York is comprised of five enormous districts: Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island and Brooklyn. Brooklyn has been independent since 1898 and, despite making up part of New York, still has its own unique lifestyle and identity. The New York lifestyle changes on the other side of the must-see Brooklyn Bridge. With over two million inhabitants, its population is extremely diverse, as this was one of the main emigrant settlements. It is now one of the most sought-after areas for New Yorkers who want to escape the prices and hustle and bustle of Manhattan. In the past decade, this gigantic grid of buildings and peaceful, residential streets has become one of the trendiest areas to live in and visit. Although you won’t see any large monuments here, you will be able to experience an authentic slice of American life.
Hill Country Bar
Don't miss out on traditional food, country music and an all-American atmosphere.

At 30th and 26th Street (this is how locations are described in New York), you will find the Hill Country Bar, one of the most all-American places you will ever find. This is a bar and restaurant that offers live music, and a trip here at night is highly recommended. Its ground floor is an unusual hybrid of bar and restaurant, which also acts as a concert hall, and is filled with huge tables to sit at and dine whilst enjoying some of the city’s best live country music. Upstairs, you can choose the type and amount of meat you would like them to grill for you, but watch how much you order! The food is delicious, but extremely filling. We recommend the ribs that are served with a variety of sauces, while they serenade you with Tom Petty’s ‘American girl’. Could you get any more American?

There are numerous ways to explore the city of New York. Some of the fastest ways are by taxi or, depending on the area, by bus. However, we do recommend taking a Water Taxi at least once while you’re here. These yellow boats are a familiar sight, and they are a great way to see the city when you first arrive in New York. These aquatic taxis cover the entire Manhattan peninsula in 90 minutes, with explanations of each area of the city. You will see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and New Jersey, cross the River Hudson and arrive at the Brooklyn Bridge. This is a great way to familiarise yourself with the city before visiting on-foot. The views of Manhattan from the water are also absolutely stunning. A useful tip is to take this trip late afternoon, to enjoy the beautiful view of the sun setting over New York from the deck. Truly unforgettable.
Broadway musicals
If you're a fan of musicals, you can't leave this city without going to one of the shows on this legendary street.
The capital of theatre.
New York is the city of showbiz, and the popular Broadway is its epicentre of theatre. Watching a Broadway musical can be a once in a lifetime opportunity. This historic street has seen some of the most important shows in the world, and continues to host the biggest names to this day. From Times Square to the adjacent streets, over 40 theatres open their doors to the public every day. These are divided into three categories: On Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-off Broadway, depending on the importance of the show and theatre. But don’t be deceived, as any show here is bound to thrill. The ‘TKTS’ shop on Times Square sells same-day tickets at reduced prices. Enjoy the show!

Watching the New York Knicks play is like watching a great show. If possible, try to get tickets to a game and you'll be amazed!

If you’re a sports fan, you mustn’t miss out on a chance to watch a basketball game in its birthplace. There are several places to enjoy a game of top-level basketball in New York. If you can, get tickets to see the New York Knicks, who are the local and most followed NBA team in the city. Their home is Madison Square Garden, which is one of the most important courts in the world. The NBA league runs from October to around April, and you can buy tickets at the stadium itself. If you have time, try to book tickets several days in advance for the best seats. Once you enter, prepare to witness the New Yorkers’ passion for this sport, from the supporters to the cheerleaders who entertain the crowd at timeouts.
Madison Square Garden

A large stadium and stage.
This enormous stadium is located between 33rd and 7th Avenue. It is the city’s third large stadium and has hosted the biggest and best shows of all kind since it opened its doors in 1968. It is also home to both of the city’s basketball teams (remember that basketball and baseball are the biggest sports in the US), the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers. It is also thought to be the most important stage in the world for music and singers. The biggest stars in the world have played, and still play here, including Led Zeppelin (this is where they filmed their famous documentary in 1973), Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Beyoncé. They say that an artist hasn’t ‘made it’ until they have performed here. Whether your interests lie in sport, music or circus performances, we recommend a visit to this legendary establishment, which is accessible on foot from Times Square. This is a must-see in New York.

Kids also have a place to shop in the big city, as New York is home to the world’s most famous toyshops. FAO Schwartz is the shop of all children’s shops, and is located on Fifth Avenue. This establishment opened its doors in 1862, and houses the famous giant piano that Tom Hanks danced on in the film ‘Big’. This piano is still displayed in its enormous shop window, and crowds of children come in every day to try it out. Even though this shop is also famous for its high price tags, you can find all kinds of gifts and souvenirs at affordable prices. In any case, a visit alone to this establishment is an amazing experience in itself. If you visit with children, be warned that they will probably want to leave with a New York souvenir for themselves.

New York bargains.
This is a real treasure trove. A visit to New York’s markets is a great way to find good deals and bargains, as well as souvenirs and unusual objects. The city’s flea markets are the best for this, and we recommend the Williamsburg Flea, which is held every Sunday morning. Located at the heart of Brooklyn, in the middle of East River Park, this is considered the ‘coolest’ market in New York, and also offers some of the best panoramic views of the city. In the Antiques Garage building on 112 West and 25th Street, Hell’s Kitchen is also open throughout the weekend, and is said to be the best second-hand market for everything, from clothing to crockery and music.
Music in the Village and Soho

Soho and The Village have become the most popular and cultural areas of New York and also in the world, particularly when referring to underground and alternative places. Music lovers will enjoy the plethora of shops specialising second-hand music, records and music-related objects, dotted around these areas. Die-hard music lovers mustn’t miss out on a trip to Bleecker Street Records (at 239, Bleecker Street), a genuine music temple, where you will find a vast array of discontinued, pirated and sought-after music. Just a few streets away, at 35 Carmine Street, you will find the House of Oldies, which has been there for several years and specialises in all music eras.

The city's most emblamatic shop.
Macy’s is not just a department store, but also an American shopping institution. It is the most popular chain of department stores in all of North America, and its headquarters in New York is sure to astonish you. Located between 6th and 7th Avenue, at the latitude of 34th and 35th Street, it boasts over six floors of shops in which to lose oneself for hours on end. One of the reasons behind its popularity is the huge variety of clothing at affordable prices. Although it is not considered inexpensive by New Yorkers, European tourists are usually able to find brand-name clothing at great discounts. On your way out, don’t forget to pick up one of their iconic shopping bags as a souvenir.

New York has become internationally renowned for being an electronics paradise. You can easily find the latest technology at huge discounts, which you won’t find in other countries. The city boasts a vast array of shops dedicated to all things electronic, such as the J&R Shop. This legendary establishment at 23 Park Row continues to stock all the latest, most sought-after electronics and mobile phones at huge discounts. Lovers of photography should head to B&H at 34th and 9th Avenue. This is where you will find the best professional photography equipment at incredible prices. It is closed on Saturdays, but opens on Sundays.

A trip to New York presents a unique opportunity to buy a lot of products that you can’t easily find in other parts of the world. You can often find substantial sales on fashion, electronics, music and other consumer items, mainly because the majority are made in America, making them free of customs tax and any other price-raising factors. If you plan on buying something that is too large to fit in your hand luggage, you may be worried about transporting it in the plane hold. This is often the case when buying musical instruments, which are too delicate to check in. Most of the time, you can solve this issue in the shop itself, as they provide forms to be filled out by the customer and the merchant, which can be presented at the airport and allow the item to be carried on as hand luggage.

Sex and the City.
Ever since its first episode several years ago, the TV series ‘Sex and the City’ has amassed a significant cult following, and has become symbol of the city’s identity. The fictional residence of its leading role, Carrie Bradshaw, is actually a real place, and can be found at 66, Perry Street. This has attracted thousands of followers from all over the world, who come to this address in The Village to take a photo on the steps outside. This is also a very fashionable shopping area, where you can find numerous clothing shops on what is known today as the ‘Carrie Bradshaw/Sex and the City shopping route’.

The shops in Soho are different and stylish, and cater to all budgets!

Welcome to the city’s alternative and underground neighbourhood, where you will find a different kind of shopping area, bursting with surf, hip-hop, grunge and hipster clothes shops. You can find big-name brands, such as Levi’s, as well as high quality, lesser-known brands, which is one of the area’s main attractions. The area closest to Bowery Street (at the eastern limits) is home to several music and vinyl shops, where you can find discontinued and second-hand music, as well as some of the most sought-after records.
Abercrombie & Fitch
This looks like a nightclub, but it isn't. This is where you'll find the pricey apparel that is so loved by the city's youth.

New York’s status as the capital of the world is reflected in its high price tags, but it is possible to find products and apparel, for much more affordable prices. American brands, such as Levi’s, can often be found at much lower prices, unlike the pricier Abercrombie & Fitch, which has become one of the city’s icons in the past years. This clothing brand can be found at several locations, but the most central store is at number 720 on Fifth Avenue and is almost like a nightclub. The shop consists of low lighting and deafening music, and it is always filled with young shoppers. Don’t worry if you can barely tell what colour a garment is, as this brand is bound to impress.
Fifth Avenue
The essence of the Big Apple and the most famous avenue in the world is a must-see.

Fifth Avenue is one of the most famous streets in New York, crossing the city and ending at Central Park. There are several reasons for its popularity. Firstly, some of the best shops in the world are found here, exuding luxury and sophistication at several locations on this street, particularly at the end closest to Central Park, where you will find big names such as Apple, Cartier and Abercrombie & Fitch. The section from the Flatiron Building to Washington Square also boasts numerous well-known shops, such as the impressive Victoria’s Secret building. Fifth Avenue is also home to several of the city’s monuments, including the Public Library, the Empire State Building and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Ellis Island
Once the most significant place for any emigrant, you'll recognise it today thanks to The Godfather II.
The port of America.
Also known as the ‘Port of America’, this is where emigrants from Europe and the rest of the world would come through in the 1900s, in search of the ‘American Dream’. This is where the immigration offices and checkpoints were once located and was an extremely important place, due to the fact that North America was established by emigrants. It is just a stone’s throw away from the Statue of Liberty, although you will surely recognise it from numerous films, including its most famous role in The Godfather II. You can get here by boat, and we recommend combining your visit with a trip to the Statue of Liberty. The whole island revolves around the museum, which was once the offices and is one of the best museums the city has to offer.

Don't miss out on this journey. On a sunny day, you'll truly enjoy it.
Agradable paseo.
If you are here on a sunny day, this outing is one of the most pleasant ways of experiencing Manhattan. It starts at Ground Zero, where the Twin Towers once stood before the 9/11 attacks, and St. Paul’s Church, which served as a place of refuge after the attacks and is now a museum, which commemorates those lost on September 11th. From here, you can walk along the bank of the River Hudson and see spectacular views of the river, the Statue of Liberty and New Jersey on one side, and New York’s Financial District on the other. This will lead you across Wall Street to Battery Park, which is brimming with restaurants offering a place to sit, relax and marvel at the huge boats coming in and out on one side, and the Brooklyn Bridge on the other.

A 20 minute bird's eye view of the city is enough to take in the beautiful aerial views. Absolutely spectacular.

A different and spectacular way of seeing the big city is to take a helicopter ride over Manhattan. These are quite common, and the breathtaking views are unforgettable. We recommend doing this on the last days of your visit to New York, once you have already familiarised yourself with the layout of the city. You will then be able to fly over the Big Apple and point out all the different places you have visited on foot, from the Rover Hudson to Central Park, over seven bridges and, at the end, over the Chrysler building, the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Centre. This journey lasts around 20 minutes, and begins at the Downtown Heliport (next to the port in the southern zone). This unrivalled experience costs 150 Dollars. Due to its popularity, we recommend booking your trip at least three days in advance.
Gospel mass in Harlem
Experiencing this ritual first-hand is highly recommended. It will give you goosebumps.
Unforgettable.
If you want to attend a gospel mass, we recommend going to one in the Harlem district, although they can be found in several areas. Prepare for one of the most unforgettable experiences you will have in New York. This ritual is performed in Baptist churches, where the faithful congregate every Sunday morning in their finery with other fellow parishioners. It is an impressive mixture of music and prayer, focusing on the love of God and fellow man, making any visitor feel welcome and included in the ceremony. You will never have seen anything like this live music concert and its intense, spiritual participants. At 116th and Lexon Avenue (an easy walk from Central Park), you will find one of the best churches for a gospel mass, which is not particularly touristy.
Ferry to Staten Island
This ferry will take you to Staten Island. It's free and there aren't usually any queues, making it a great option for a day trip!
On Whitehall Street.
This is a little trick that we will share with you. The ferry that leaves from Whitehall Street (the Subway stop of the same name) will take you to Staten Island, past Ellis and Liberty Island to the outskirts. This water taxi has several advantages. The first is that you don’t have to pay to ride it, due to a peculiar circumstance in which the owner of the company handed it over to the city, on the sole premise that a journey would never cost more than 25 Cents. The city decided that it would be easier to make it free, rather than charge such a small amount of money. The second advantage is that you won’t have to wait in such long queues as the ones often found at Battery Park. The only downside is that this boat will not stop at the Statue of Liberty, but this may not impair your visit, as, ever since the attacks, visiting this monument has become very restricted.
From the towers to the port of New York
This trip is essential, on which you will experience the emotion and ever-present sadness of Ground Zero.
An interesting journey.
The space that the Twin Towers once occupied is now the location of Ground Zero. The tragic destruction of the towers brought about the enormous project of building an even bigger tower, which is to be named ‘The Big One’, to commemorate September 11th and symbolise the city of New York’s new image. Behind you, Saint Paul’s Church is home to a museum commemorating the people who helped out during the attacks. New York’s financial district begins in front of this. At the end of the street, with the Federal Reserve and Bank of New York behind you, you will get to the end of Well Street and its popular bull statue. Now you only have to search for the Stock Exchange Building, which controls the global economy and markets almost single-handedly. If you continue walking, you will eventually arrive at the port of New York.
Soho
A cool, underground vibe in the city's fashion district, famous for its renowned, exclusive shopping.
South of Houston Street.
An abbreviation of ‘South of Houston Street’, Soho is located between Little Italy and Chinatown to the south. This was the artists’ neighbourhood in the 60s and 70s, and boasted some of the city’s most attractive locales. As time went, the area underwent revaluation and the stars moved elsewhere. However, the atmosphere still remains. Today, this is the ‘underground’ district of Manhattan and, although it is an exclusive, pricey neighbourhood to live it, it has preserved its cool vibe, making it one of the most popular areas in the city. The streets are lined with trendy shops, old record stores, and a vast array of clothes shops, making it one of the most prestigious shopping districts. We recommend wandering through these streets to soak up the flavour of the neighbourhood. You will also find a handful of decently priced restaurants and cafés, to sit at and relax while you watch the world go by.
Little Italy
An Italian air to the city of skyscrapers. The essence of Italy lives on in the Big apple.
Nolita.
A stroll through Little Italy (also known as ‘Nolita’) is like taking a stroll through New York in the 1900s, as its streets have been preserved over time. This is where a large number of Italian emigrants who fled to America in the 19th and 20th century lived. They took refuge in this neighbourhood, which occupies part of the central zone and almost reached the financial district between Broadway and Bowery. Once you enter this neighbourhood, the majority of the noise and dizzying rhythm of the city suddenly wanes, and you are drawn into this little world of streets lined with cafés and restaurants, where you can sit on a terrace and watch people stroll peacefully by. The Italian-American population has mostly left this neighbourhood now, but it still preserves the atmosphere of days gone by, just like Chinatown. To the north, next to Houston Street, you can see how this neighbourhood blends now blends with Manhattan.
Central Park
Woody Allen's second home is the world's most famous and high-profile park. There must be something to it…
Everybody knows it.
Welcome to the most famous park in the world. You’ll have seen it in photographs, postcards, on television and in films, such as those by Woody Allen. They say that no one is a real New Yorker until they have met the director in Central Park. The park was designed in around 1858, when New York was starting to rapidly grow as a place of relaxation for the crowds of workers in Manhattan. Today, over 25 million people visit the park every year. We recommend renting a bike to cover it all, as you will have enough time to see the meadows used for baseball games and picnics, the ponds and fountains, the enormous lake, which adjoins Harlem. You can also visit John Lennon’s Corner, where the word ‘imagine’ is spelled out in tiles on the ground in honour of the late singer. In front of it are the Dakota apartments, where he was assassinated in 1980. This enormous park is one of the most beautiful places in New York.
Sweets in Manhattan

You’ll be surprised at how passionate this city is about its desserts. You’ll find small and large sweet shops and bakeries in every neighbourhood, among which is one of the world’s most comprehensive sweet shops. Dylan’s Candy Bar, on 60th and Third Avenue, is bound to amaze any young visitor with its three floors filled with an incredible variety of sweets and chocolates. Economy Candy at 108 Rivington Street specialises in ‘antique’ confectionery. Its shelves brim with brands you may have thought didn’t exist any more, to present-day sweets with retro designs. This is the perfect place to find a really original souvenir of the city.
Places in Little Italy
Little Italy, brimming with enticing Italian restaurants, is proof of the city's undeniable affiliation with Italy.
Mamma mia!
The best time to visit this neighbourhood is when you are hungry. The Italian influence on this country’s gastronomy is obvious here. Little Italy is a great place to try this culinary fusion, as every single restaurant has something delicious to offer. In addition to pizza and spaghetti and meatballs, you can’t leave without having tried a typical Cannoli dessert. Originating in Sicily, this tasty treat is extremely popular, and is made with a mixture of cheese and chocolate, vanilla or fruit. This neighbourhood is practically the only place where you will find hand-made Cannolis. If you visit in the afternoon, don’t forget to sample an authentic gelato in one of the many ice-cream parlours.
Dinner on the Hudson
A romantic dinner under the glow of the Manhattan lights, followed by dancing and drinks. Come prepared for anything!
The most romantic plan of all.
For the romantics, al fresco dining on the River Hudson is a classic and the perfect way to end a day in the city. Bear in mind that there is often dancing after dinner, lasting around three hours. This is also a perfect way to view Manhattan, as thousands of lights illuminate the district by night, captured in one of the world’s most famous photographs. The views from the river are stunning, and the journey takes you around a large part of the island. There are several companies to choose from, which all leave from the Chelsea Pier in Manhattan or Waahawken Pier in New Jersey. All of these companies will take you around the southern half of the island.

Coffee plays a large part in the streets of New York. Follow the trend and sip on one as you walk around the city.
Playing the lead role.
Coffee plays a key role throughout the day here. On your travels you will constantly see people sipping a ‘to-go’ coffee while they go about their business. Whether you truly love this drink, or just need an energy boost mid-morning or after lunch, it is well worth following this trend. You can either take a seat in a café, or order it to take out. If you’re in a hurry, all cafés offer take out cups, but the king of them all is the legendary Starbucks chain. However, it is well worth taking a moment to enjoy the smaller coffee shops, such as the original D’Espresso on Madison Avenue, where the décor alone is worth a visit. Café Gitane on Mott Street is an authentic emblem of Little Italy, while Café Café in Soho offers a delightful cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Long, but fast-moving queues.
Known for having some of the best burgers in the city, this burger chain is a ideal dining option. In addition to its popularity with the locals, it is also a far cry from the typical fast food chain. Of all its branches, the restaurant located on Madison Square is by far the best one. Situated inside the park, their terrace is the perfect place to enjoy their food. You can also order take out and set up an impromptu picnic on the grass. One great ‘hidden’ option is the Burger Joint inside Le Parker Meridien on 57th Street. Don’t be put off by the luxurious hotel, as this burger joint really does live up to its name and is very popular among New Yorkers. Another option is Paul’s Burgers at 131 on Second Avenue, which is less hidden but still retains the same modest, urban charm.

You may recognise this place, as it was frequently used as the backdrop in Sex and the City, putting this little bakery on the New York map. However, its fame has in no way lowered the quality of its tasty sweet treats.

In addition to the street vendors, you will also find hot dogs in restaurants, such as Papaya King on 179th and 86th. Another scrumptious option is pizza. You’ll see countless pizzerias, both in the centre and further out, where you can get a slice to eat as you go on your way. Sal and Carmine’s, in the north of Broadway, is just one of the city’s many great pizza places.

The first thing to do in New York is to enjoy a delicious breakfast. You only have to pass by one of the many breakfast restaurants to realise how important this meal is here. The first of two main options is a savoury, English-style breakfast with eggs, sausages, potatoes, cheese and much more. A sweet breakfast usually comprises American pancakes, served with syrup, and toast with jam. Breakfast here is always served with a large cup of hot coffee. The best way to find a good breakfast place is to watch out for one on your travels. Two great options are the Metro Diner on Broadway and 100th, and Max Brenner next to Union Square. Another breakfast option is a bagel, a traditionally Jewish bread found in several specialised shops, such as Ess-a-bagel on First Avenue.

Located strategically, it is just a few metres from Times Square on 42nd Street, making it easy to combine your visit here with a stroll through the central zone of Manhattan. Inside, you will find different areas based on important historical and present day figures. The visit starts in its reception hall with the stars of the fashion world. From here, you can see all the American presidents, comic book heroes, musicians and international historical figures.

The birthplace of showmanship.
Welcome to the golden age of showbiz. Since the inauguration of this building in the Rockefeller Complex in 1932, it has been the birthplace of the most important artistic events. Today, it is still the place to be for film premieres, musical performances, theatre and concerts. But not many people know that the guided tour of its interior reveals its unusual past, and allows you to go back in time to relive some of the most amazing moments of Broadway history. It is a truly thrilling experience to explore the rooms that bore witness to greats, such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles, getting ready for their performances. Whitney Museum of American Art

Austere but important.
This is only for real contemporary art fanatics. When she couldn’t exhibit her collection at the Met, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney founded her own museum in 1930. Since then, it has grown to become one of the most important museums of its kind. If you walk along Madison Avenue until 75th Street, you will come across this impressive grey building. Its imposing, austere and solid presence is already a hint at what lies inside it. Depending on the time of year, the first three floors host diverse temporary exhibitions. But it is on the fifth floor that you will find the original collection, boasting some of the most exclusive and comprehensive American contemporary artworks. Works by Andy Warhol, Edward Hopper and Willem de Kooning are just a few of the pieces to see here.

It is very easy to fall in love with New York. If you can, make your way to the intersection of Fifth Avenue with 103rd and 104th Street, where you will find a museum, which looks back on the history of the city. This is a great way to discover its origins and familiarise yourself with its way of life, with approaches from different perspectives. It houses exhibitions on architecture, décor, works of art and key events that defined its history. The collection of antique toys and that of interiors, for example, revisit four centuries of everyday life in the city. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, such as the exhibit that revolves around the attack on the Twin Towers. This four-story museum is unique, as it is the only one dedicated entirely to the city itself.

At Pier 86, to the west of Manhattan, you will find a totally different kind of museum. The nature of this museum, along with its impressive appearance, makes it one of a kind in the world. You will see an aircraft carrier, which is where your visit begins. Aboard the Intrepid, you will discover its chaotic history and the layout of this vessel, from the control bridge to its holds. After this visit, the museum takes you into the old Growler submarine. This is possibly one of the most impressive parts of the visit, due to the narrow and stifling space that the occupants had to live in. You will then go back outside to see the legendary Concorde. This famous plane, capable of crossing the sound barrier, is exhibited here, providing visitors an opportunity to explore its interior. This museum is without a doubt one of the most unique and entertaining attractions that New York has to offer.
Frick Collection
You won't feel like you're in a museum, as you're in Frick himself's mansion.
An unusual collection.
This museum is unique among its neighbours, firstly due to its location. At the intersection of 70th Street and Central Park, the mansion of tycoon Henry Clay Frick was erected. After his death, his home and large art collection was handed over to the city. Today, a visit to the early 19th century building’s exterior is an experience in itself, but the collection that it houses is extremely unique, even though it isn’t as vast as that of other museums. Paintings by Rembrandt, Goya, El Greco and Vermeer are just a few of the works on display here. Walking through the halls, the arrangement of the collection will make you feel like you are walking through a home that is still very much inhabited. It is also said that the pieces have been kept in the same places as Frick himself had them. In the same vein, the mansion has preserved its original setting and décor.

A visit to this museum is a journey through history. It is home to all types of works from different classical cultures. Pride of place on Fifth Avenue, next to Central Park, you will immediately recognise its staircase, its impressive façade and its columns. The admission fee is symbolic, which means that everyone can pay the amount they wish to pay, although any price would seem worthless compared to the collection this museum houses, which ranges from Ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian objects, to paintings by Monet and Rembrandt. The exhibitions are so vast, that we highly recommend deciding what parts to visit beforehand. Even so, you are bound to come across collections that you never knew of, which are also worthy of your time.
MoMA, Museum of Modern Art
These six floors of art, which would take you at least a day to thoroughly cover, are worth a visit.
A large collection of contemporary art.
This is a Mecca for all die-hard art lovers. You could spend a whole day at this museum, as it houses a vast collection. It is located on 53rd Street at the same latitude as Central Park, and boasts six floors filled with some of the world’s most important contemporary masterpieces. The second floor holds books, prints and cinematic screenings. Its garden is also a great place to take a moment to relax during your visit. The third floor focuses on designs, drawings photography and architecture, and the fourth floor is dedicated to various North American artists, such as Jackson Pollock and Edward Hopper. You will find the ‘big names’, such as Dali, Van Gogh and Miro, on the fifth floor. Once here, it is worth going up to the sixth floor, which hosts temporary exhibitions and offers great views of the city.
Chrysler Building
Art Deco in its purest form.

This building is in pride of place among the New York skyscrapers. It is located at the intersection of Lexington and 42nd Street, but the best way to see it is from afar, at different points in the city. Inside, you are only able to visit its foyer, which is drenched in the building’s elegance and class. However, its exterior is its main attraction. A prime example and icon of Art Deco, the Chrysler Building is a monument in itself. Today, it is the third tallest skyscraper in New York, but was the tallest in its time at 320 metres. However, its success was rapidly overshadowed by the Stock Market Crash and later by the Empire State Building. Nonetheless, it is still one of the most important pieces of architecture, attracting artists from all over the world. When observing it, you will notice its famous dome and the gargoyles and other adornments on the lower floors.
Flatiron Building
This was the first New York skyscraper. Today, it is not its height, but its unusual structure that catches the eye.
A triangular iron.
Among the many architectural gems that New York has to offer, the Flatiron is one of the most unusual. To visit, walk along Broadway or Fifth Avenue until they intersect at Madison Square Park. You will immediately recognise it by its triangular form, which makes it look like an iron, from which it gets its name. Although it may seem small today, it was the first skyscraper built in the city. It was erected in 1902, sparking the rapid construction of many more thereafter. The imaginative way of making the most of its location gives it this unusual shape, which is only two metres wide at its narrowest part. This is a worthwhile quick visit, which you could combine with a stroll through Madison Square Park, or a stroll past it if you walk down to Lower Manhattan.

It won’t take you long to realise why this city is the capital of the world. Its streets see a vast array of people and cultures, making it the perfect location for this organisation. To visit, take a metro to Grand Central Station, or a bus to the intersection of First Avenue and 44th Street. The first thing you need to know is that, upon arrival, you are no longer on American soil. Just like embassies, the zone that the headquarters occupies is considered international soil. Here you will find one of the most interesting guided tours the city has to offer, with the added bonus of having fewer crowds. This tour allows you to explore a large part of the main building, as well as the popular Assembly Hall. After this visit, you will have gained in-depth knowledge of its important and dynamic history, as well as how it functions.
New York Stock Exchange

The New York Stock Exchange building is located at the intersection of Broad Street and Wall Street, and is easily recognisable by the enormous American flag hanging from its façade. From the start of its activity in the late 19th and early 20th century, the Stock Exchange has played a vital role in the development of the global economy. After a visit here, it is well worth exploring the rest of the area, which offers a lot to see. Discover the importance of each building to really get the feel for this area. Just steps away, in front of the Federal Hall, is the George Washington statue. From here, you can go down to Bowling Green and see the Wall Street ‘Charging Bull’, a statue representing this district. Along the way, you will come across the country’s most important banking and business buildings.
Times Square

You may feel as though you have already been here, as its image is world famous. Once you get here, you’ll understand why its hustle and bustle, with its unique charm, is its main attraction. Just stopping here to feel the rhythm of the city and its passers-by is an experience in itself. Almost everything you could wish for is within reach here, such as shops and street performances by day and restaurants and theatre by night. At sunset, its legendary lights and neon signs illuminate the square. This is the starting point to any other part of the city, connecting Broadway with Seventh Avenue, the supposed nucleus of the city and popular thoroughfare.
Brooklyn Bridge
Look familiar? This old suspension bridge is one of the most filmed and photographed bridges in the world.
Emblematic.
A stroll across this bridge is the perfect way to finish off a day in the city. Among the many bridges in Manhattan, this is without a doubt the most emblematic, for various reasons. For starters, it was the world’s first suspension bridge, inaugurated in 1883. Since then, its image has been immortalised in hundreds of films and photographs. The best way to see it is to combine it with a visit to the Lower Manhattan area. Its west side will connect you to the Brooklyn neighbourhood in the east, and is only a short walk from the Wall Street zone. The best way to visit is to take a stroll along the upper walkways late afternoon. Try not to look behind you as you walk almost two kilometres, to save the view you are leaving for the end. Retrace your steps back over the bridge and marvel at the unique view of the city at sunset.
Rockefeller Centre
It isn't as tall as the 380 metre Empire State Building, but its beautiful views are worth a visit.
A popular ice rink.
This area has much more to offer than people think. Erected by the most famous millionaire in history, the Rockefeller complex occupies three blocks between Fifth and Sixth Avenue. The most popular visit is to its entrance. Adorned with the Channel Gardens, it bustles with skaters on its ice rink in winter, and is filled with bright colours in the summer, overlooked by bronze statues. A visit to this complex will take you on a journey through one of the country’s most emblematic business empires. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to go up to the ‘Top of the Rock’, its top floor, which offers the most impressive view of the city after that of the Empire State Building. As it is less popular, the queues are usually much shorter and, although it isn’t as tall, the views are equally as impressive.

Touch the New York sky… If you go up at night, you'll never forget the views of the illuminated city.
380 metres high!
You can’t leave New York without having viewed it from above. The most popular way to do this is to visit the Empire State building on Fifth Avenue and take one of its 72 lifts to the 102nd floor. The earlier you visit, the shorter the queues. Bear in mind that, once you go outside, the impact of being three hundred and eighty metres above the ground is simply astonishing. The 360° view of the island from here is truly unique. Not to worry, as the railings around the lookout point keep you safe! Once you have made this trip, you’ll want to do it again. If you do come back, be sure to visit by night, as the lifts are open until one in the morning and the nocturnal views are completely different to those by day.
The Statue of Liberty
A trip to Liberty Island is a must in New York. From above or from below, Lady Liberty never ceases to impress.
World renowned!
This is without a doubt the most famous statue in the city, but this excursion also takes you on a journey to its origins. To visit it on Liberty Island, we highly recommend waking up early to beat the crowds. You can take the ferry from Battery Park, at the southern tip of Manhattan, which takes you to the island. From the ferry, you will be able to see the unique view of the statue from the sea. Once there, the museum at the base of the statue is worth a visit if you are interested in learning about the statue’s origins and significance. Go up to the lookout point at the crown and take some of the most spectacular photos of the city, but remember that this must be reserved well in advance. Before or afterwards, complement your visit with a trip to the neighbouring Ellis Island, where you will find a museum dedicated to early 20th century immigration, which defines this city.
