Caletón Blanco: With its white sand, shallow crystal-clear waters and volcanic rocks, this is one of the finest beaches in the north of the island. Perfect for families, scuba diving and swimming with the fish.
Famara: A windy beach with golden sand stretching over more than 5 kilometres. If you plan to practise water sports like surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing on your trip to Lanzarote, don't miss these waves.
Papagayo: If you don't go to Papagayo on your trip to Lanzarote you haven't been to Lanzarote. Possibly the most popular beach on the island, it's famous for its crystal-clear waters and rugged setting at the heart of Los Ajaches Nature Reserve.
Playa Grande: Located in the centre of Puerto del Carmen and over 1 kilometre long, this beach has golden sands, calm waters and a wide of range of services and amenities. It you're travelling to Lanzarote with your family, this is the beach for you.
Playa de Janubio: Black volcanic sand, stunning, unique... but dangerous as well because of the strong currents.
Arrecife: With its seafaring tradition and historical role as a strategic defence, the capital of Lanzarote is nowadays the cultural and financial centre of the island. It's well worth setting aside some time to visit one of the weekly markets during your holiday or getaway to Lanzarote.
Haría: Located in the valley of the thousand palm trees, this is one of the prettiest and most relaxing towns on the island with a microclimate that also makes it one of the greenest places in Lanzarote.

Teguise: An elegant and prosperous town with a rich history, this was the island's first capital. On your trip to Lanzarote, it's worth taking time out to stroll through the cobbled streets, nowadays recognised as an architectural, artistic and historical ensemble.
The island of Timanfaya National Park has a pleasant year-round climate, like all of the Canaries, with average temperatures of between 19º and 26º, so any month is a good one as far as the weather is concerned. However, April, May, June, September and October are the optimum months to plan your trip to Lanzarote because the days are longer, the temperatures are more pleasant and there are fewer tourists because it's low season.
Lanzarote is a relatively small island, so a 3 to 4-day getaway gives you time enough to visit all the attractions. But if you want to relax on the beaches, enjoy the sea and explore some of the towns at your leisure, it's best to book a whole week.
