A very exclusive shop to browse around or buy something which is best suited to those with deep pockets.
Brands and luxury clothing.
In the district of 'Arenal' there's a very well-taken care of designer clothes shop named 'HAND' which stands for 'Have A Nice Day'. This centrally located “boutique” is stocked with women's clothing and brands such as 'Paul & Joe Sister', 'Stella Forest', 'Sonia Rykiel' and 'Pepa Miró'. You'll find it at number 22 on the street of 'calle Adriano' and it's worth visiting this place even if their items aren't within everyone's reach. HAND. Have a nice day, is an elegant and romantic place which is managed by two Frenchmen, Stéphane and Thierry, who live in Spain. Don't miss this multi-brand shop that has many followers in the city due to their fresh lines and for their variety of colours which are presented in the collections they bring to their shops.

If you want to give yourself a treat, go to this exclusive shop.

In the heart of the historic centre, on the street named 'calle Chicarreros' and very near the city council,
you have this small shop of designer clothes and accessories. It's
an inviting place which stocks exclusive brands such as 'Repetto', 'Anna Sui', 'Manoush', 'Chisato',
'Isabel Marant' and 'Tsumori'. Besides these, you'll also find fairly original shoes and bags. Their items are original and unique models
of excellent quality! The shop is like a little dolls house inside and it doesn't attract much attention outside, so be sure to check the street, as well as the shop's sign if you're coming to visit this place. 'La Pitusa' is never lacking quality or a touch of colour.
Centro Comercial Nervión Plaza
You'll easily find everything that you're looking for when it comes to shops and restaurants in this shopping centre.
A typical shopping centre.
If you don't like going to markets or second-hand markets, you can always end up
buying something in a shopping centre. The 'Nervión Plaza' opened at the end of the 90's and it's located
outside of the old town in the district of 'Nervión'. This
shopping centre is open from 10am to 10pm and like every shopping centre, it has a
huge variety of products for sale: food, jewellery, electronics and footwear
etc. Besides all this, there's a cinema and many shops. The most convenient and cheapest way to arrive to the shopping centre is via public transport, and the nearest underground stop named 'Nervión' is part of line 1.
Mercado El Jueves
This interesting street market offers second hand items, collectibles and much more.
Discover this street market on Thursdays.
Unlike many of the street markets in Seville, this one is held outdoors and it's one
of the oldest in the city. It's called 'El Jueves' (Thursday) because it actually takes place
every Thursday morning. You'll find this market in the district of 'Macarena',
on the street known as 'calle Feria', which is one of the most special and Bohemian streets in Seville.
The market has been trading since the 18th century and nowadays it still
keeps its tradition of filling the pavements with stalls where you can find antiques and
other second hand objects. We advise you to come here early if you want to get the
best of the best. If you're looking for a gem, this is the right place
to find one!
The District of Triana
You'll find different and very charming shops in the most traditional part of the city.
Wandering around and getting lost.
The best thing about this district, which is by the banks of the Guadalquivir River is to get lost around its
streets. That's when you'll really find some shops that'll surprise you. But what you mustn't neglect in this district are its markets like the 'Mercado de
Triana' (next to the Triana Bridge), with its food stalls, crafts and places which offer very tasty tapas, and the 'Mercado
de Manuel Arellano' or the 'Mercado de San Gonzalo' (in the plaza of 'San Martín'), where the quality of their food is worth going along for, even though
they don't attract as much attention. You'll also find a variety of good furniture shops in the district of Triana, where you can also buy items of
wicker furniture. You'll also see several jewellery and clothes shops as you're exploring 'Triana'.
Tienda Baco
Don't let the opportunity pass by of buying some of the products that are sold here, in order to remind yourself of some of the flavours.
Andalusian gourmet products.
As for gourmet products, you'll find this delicatessen on the street of 'calle Cuna'. For more than 20 years, this place has been trading Andalusian products that you simply can't miss out: patés, wines, conserves, cold meats and another kinds of products, which are all very well packed in traditional packaging. José and Antonio Baco
were the brothers who established this business which mainly concentrated on the sale of cod, but then a variety of products and certificates of origin were gradually added over time. Among some of the specialities that the 'Tienda Baco' shop has to offers are their 'castañas en almíbar' (chestnuts in syrup), 'higos al brandy' (figs in brandy), 'perdiz en escabeche' (partridge in brine) and they also sell excellent olive oil. If you like to try new flavours, or if you'd like to buy a gift for your friends who have a taste for gourmet food - don't miss 'Tienda Baco'!
El Postigo
This market is located in the same place where an old 'lonja' (or traditional market) used to be and you'll find the city's craft work in here.
Sevillian crafts for your souvenirs.
If you like crafts, this is one of the markets that you should visit during your stay in the city. The 'Postigo' market is situated in what used to be
a traditional market. The place has been gathering and selling crafts for more than 30 years, and it also has a small space for works by Sevillian artists. You'll find the 'Postigo' near the cathedral, in the central district of 'Arenal'. Don't be surprised if you don't find a typical market, this is a shop of several floors which is well taken care of and decorated in Andalusian style with an interior patio full of geraniums. It's a fantastic place to buy gifts as you can buy pots, pictures, necklaces, sculptures etc. Go and buy some pieces in this market!
Mercado del Arenal
Traditional products and gourmet shops for you to have a look round and buy something from the area.
Your traditional everyday shops.
In the district of 'Arenal', on the street of 'calle Pastor y Landero', you'll find a building that has many
arches, and it's here where the famous 'Mercado del Arenal' is located, which is one of Seville's
most central markets. In this market, you'll find regular shops
where Sevillians go to do their daily shopping, but there are also several
delicatessen shops that are worth visiting to buy some exclusive products. The 'Mercado del Arenal', which was completed in 1947,
has a lot of history considering that it used to be a monastery named 'convento de Nuestra
Señora del Pópulo', and then it was subsequently made into a prison known as 'cárcel de Pópulo'. Among
its historical past of monks and prisoners, this popular market opened in which you can go shopping, as well as enjoy some delicious tapas.
Cerámica Santa Ana
Everything ceramic in a building that's also a work of art. A perfect place to shop.
Its interior and exterior have to be seen.
This shop seems like a ceramics museum. The shop front is
remarkable with its ceramic tiles of allegories on 'Prudencia y el Trabajo' (Prudence and Work),
painted by Manuel Arrellano at the end of the 19th century. His paintings contrast with
its two green doors and gives another touch of colour to the exterior of the 'Cerámica
Santa Ana' shop. This hidden little gem is located on the street of 'calle San Jorge' in the 'Triana' district. This
famous ceramics house was established during 1939 in what used to be the factory that belonged to
Manuel Montero Asquith. Here, you can find crafts, lighting, artistic ceramics
and tiles. If the shop happens to be closed (as it has undergone several refurbishments),
don't worry because there are several shops, selling tiles that are also worth discovering.
Mercado de la Encarnación
As well as a viewpoint, this structure is home to a market where you'll find all kinds of food.
Under the mushrooms.
The futuristic and innovative structure that stands in the 'plaza de la Encarnación', which is commonly known as
"Las Setas" (The Mushrooms), accommodates various shops on the lower part which make them the
ideal place for local shopping. If you're staying in a flat or a holiday apartment,
this place is ideal to do your small food shopping. The professionals
of this market have always been loyal to this place and have been located here in this plaza for around 37 years. They've been through all kinds
of changes, including the construction of the 'Metropol Parasol' monument
around which they are located at the base of the structure. The 'plaza de
Abastos' at the 'Mercado de La Encarnación' market has around 40 shops in which
you'll find stalls that are exclusively dedicated to cheese, fish, vegetables and
typical agricultural products, among others. If you come to see the 'Metropol Parasol', don't forget to visit the market!
El Pabellón de la Navegación
Although Seville isn't very close to the sea, the city is still very close to it in other ways and some of its treasures are exhibited here.
Memories of the Expo.
Seville isn't next to the sea but it has several centres and museums dedicated to
this natural wonder. Located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, the Sevillian architect,
Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, designed this pavilion for the
Seville Expo '92. Here, you can see a permanent exhibition called 'Sevilla y la
navegación atlántica' (Seville and Atlantic Sailing), where you will find the most technical and human parts of
sailing. Besides this, there's an area for the scale models of boats which is wonderful
to have a look at. There are many activities which are currently organized here:
theatre during the evening and children's summer camps. Take the opportunity to go to the viewpoint that's in the 'Torre Schindler' tower, next to the pavilion. It's worth it!
Museo Arqueológico
Even if you're not interested in archaeology, come along to this museum and you'll learn many things about the area!
The most important findings.
Whether you're a fan of all things modern, or if you're an antiques lover,
Seville has museums for everyone. This museum is devoted to
discoveries of ancient art: the 'Museo Arqueológico de Sevilla' (Archaeological Museum of Seville). It
was first located in the prestigious setting of the 'Alcázar', but the collection
was transferred in 1875 to what was the monastery named 'Convento de la Merced'. Among the collections, you can
find special works, as well as numerous treasures such as 'El Carambolo'
(gold and ceramic pieces) and those of 'Ébora' and 'Mairena'. On the museum's tour, you'll go round
its hall for prehistoric objects that date back to the year 2500 BC; the
Protohistory hall and another which is dedicated to the Roman world that's located on the main floor. Enjoy your visit!
Museo de Carruajes
A curious museum for the most inquisitive and restless minds.
You can never learn too much.
There's no doubt that this is a special and very specialized museum that attracts the most inquisitive visitors. If this describes you, you must discover this
collection of antique carriages. Among some of the types of carriages that you'll find here are the 'Gala Coupé', which is the type of carriage
that everybody knows as a coach, and the Mail Coach, which as it's name suggests, was used to transport mail. Located at number 10 of 'plaza
de Cuba' at the old 'Muelle de Mulas', you'll find the 'Museo de Carruajes de Sevilla', that faces the 'Torre del Oro'. In the past, this building was a monastery known as the 'convento de los Remedios', whereas today it houses the 'Museo de Carruajes' on the ground floor, which is also
the headquarters for a carriage club known as the 'Real Club de Enganches de Andalucía'.
Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares
A very original way to get better acquainted with the city and its people.
Sevillian culture before your eyes.
This museum which is dedicated to folk life, in the heart of the park named 'parque de María Luisa' is located inside the 'Pabellón Mudéjar' (Mudéjar pavilion), which is a Neo-Mudéjar style building that dates back o 1914. The museum as it is nowadays, wasn't created until 1972 with its objective of showing
Seville's ethnography and wealth to the public. Incidentally, the 'Díaz Velázquez' legacy was donated to the museum in 1979 as one of the deposits the museum received. In 2001, the 'Allepuz' ethnographic collection of 168 pieces was also acquired. Among the museum's exhibitions you'll find traditional clothes, work tools of the period and
musical instruments. If you have time, don't miss this museum because even just the building and its surroundings are beautiful. The building has two floors as a museum and
there's free admission for citizens of European Union Member States.
Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo
A centre which isn't only dedicated to Andalusian contemporary art, it's also exhibits international works.
International modern art.
Despite a lot of history and ancient art, the Andalusian city
also offers a centre dedicated to contemporary art and this is called the 'Centro
Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo' (Andalusian Contemporary Art Centre), which is located in the 'Monasterio de la Cartuja de Santa
María de Las Cuevas' which is situated on the other side of the canal named 'canal de Alfonso XIII', in the district of
'Triana'. The centre opened in 1998 and international artists have exhibited their
works here such as Ai Weiwei, Lotty Rosenfeld, Agnès Varda
and Bruce Nauman, or Spanish artists like Guillermo Perez Villalta and Lara Almarcegui.
They also organize cultural activities. Come to the 'Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo' and show all your artistic flair!
Museo marítimo
A museum devoted to marine life that you mustn't let pass by if you're passionate about the sea.
The 'Torre del Oro' museum.
The 'Torre del Oro' is the place that was chosen to open the 'Museo Naval' (Naval Museum), on the 'Paseo de
Cristóbal Colón', and by the banks of the Guadalquivir River. If you love the sea and all
things naval, we recommended you to visit this museum where you will find pieces
related to the marine life of Seville, such as compasses, fossilized marine animals,
letters and engravings, among other valuable and interesting historical documents. You'll also see the different marine knots that there are here. Come and feel like the ship's captain! If you're unlucky with the weather to go for a walk outdoors, this museum can be a very interesting option.
Museo del Baile Flamenco
Everyone knows that Flamenco is an art that deserves a museum like this one.
A very special museum in the city.
Flamenco is an art and a dance which originated in Andalusia, and this art form has also spread extensively
on an international level. With the importance that Flamenco has had in history and that it continues to have nowadays,
Seville had to have a museum that was destined for this art. The 'museo del Baile Flamenco' was founded in a building that
dates back to the 18th century and it stands on the pillars of what used to be a Roman temple, in
the district of 'Santa Cruz'. Besides this, you'll find several rooms that will show you the evolution of the dance,
featuring artists such as Sara Baras, Antonio Gades and Carmen Amaya. In other
rooms, you can see paintings, sculptures and photographs dedicated to the flamenco world. The dancer, Cristina Hoyos, artistically promotes the 'museo del Baile
Flamenco', besides directing the museum.
Museo de Bellas Artes
One of the country's main museums is waiting for you in the city, to show you the works by its artists.
Sevillian paintings.
Thanks to this museum, you will understand Sevillian baroque painting a little better, so
if you like art and painting in particular, you should visit the 'Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla'. In this building, you'll find works by some of the
most important Andalusian painters such as 'Valdés Leal', 'Zurbarán' and 'Murillo'. The 'Museo de Bellas Artes' is one
of the most important museums in Spain. The building was opened during the 17th century, but in
that period it was opened as a convent known as the 'Orden Merced Calzada' which was founded
by 'San Pedro Nolasco'. The current museum was subsequently located here, which focuses on Sevillian painting from the 15th to the 20th century. In any case, you'll also
find a collection from Medieval times and romantic paintings. The 'Museo de
Bellas Artes' is located at number 9 in the 'plaza del Museo', of the old town.
Museo Casa de Murillo
If you admire the works by the painter, this museum is a must-visit.
Murillo's' home.
The painter, Bartolomé Estebán Murillo, spent the latter years of his life here and passed away in
1682. Murillo's museum/house is a two-storey building with a striking interior patio at number 8 on the street of 'calle Santa Teresa', in the district of
Santa Cruz. In 1972, the Murillo museum was established here where they recreated the rooms: the kitchen,
bedroom and the living room were almost a spitting image of how they were when the artist was
still alive, but it wasn't until 1982 when Murillo's Museum/House
actually opened. At that time, the works by the baroque painter could still be observed, but
unfortunately the museum didn't last long, as the building was reformed into
offices during 1988. Despite this, it's still worth visiting its interior patio.
Puente del Alamillo
This work by Calatrava is the Expo symbol that was celebrated in the city.
The entrance to 'Cartuja'.
This bridge was inaugurated in 1992, which was the same year as the Seville Expo '92, and it was designed by the
architect, Santiago Calatrava. With its 250 metres in length, the purpose of the 'puente del Alamillo'
was to give access to the island of 'La Cartuja', where
the Expo '92 was held. The 'puente de Calatrava' (Calatrava Bridge) as it's commonly
known, looks like a kind of white triangle from a distance set over the
Guadalquivir River. The initial idea was to build two cable-stayed bridges with one identical bridge facing the other,
but the budget didn't stretch to make two of the same, which is why only one bridge was made in the end.
Torre de Don Fadrique
Defensive in spirit, this tower is visible from some streets in the city.
The convent tower.
The 'Torre de Don Fadrique' has a Gothic-Romanesque style and was built in 1252 by order of
Prince Don Fadrique. You'll surely come across this tower when you're walking around the city.
It's located in the patio of the 'Convento de Santa Clara' (the Monastery of Santa Clara), at number 30 on the street named 'Santa Clara', to be exact. The
tower measures around 65 metres tall and it was used as a defence like the majority of towers. It's mainly made out of brick, although
it does have several elements that were carved in stone like the stone blocks of the ground floor or the
truncated arches. You'll see that the second floor has a more Romanesque style (this may be noticed by
the design of its windows), and that its third level is more Gothic-looking. If you love architecture, don't miss this tower!
Patio de Banderas
The 'Plaza' in the 'Alcázares' will show you some of city's charms without having to move.
A courtyard in the city.
This plaza is located in the area of the 'Reales Alcázares'. In addition to being small,
this courtyard is protected by several low, surrounding buildings that seem to
hide it in some way. Seeing as this plaza seems more like a communal residents courtyard than a plaza, it's possible to see some of the city's symbolic views
from the 'Patio de Banderas' and you can see the top part of the 'Giralda' and the
cathedral, for example. Next to the plaza, there's an arch through which you can access the 'Alcázar'
and this leads to a hallway known as 'El Apeadero', or you can also enter the
district of 'Santa Cruz' from this plaza. As an interesting fact,
some of the houses that you see here used to be home to very important and famous people such as the painter,
Valeriano Bécquer, and the writer, Fernán Caballero.
Metropol Parasol
An unusual viewpoint from where the city's contrasts may be observed.
Seville's Mushrooms.
Outdoor strolls can bring many surprises and one of these is the 'Metropol Parasol', which is a gigantic, 26 metre-tall wooden structure, located in the square named 'plaza de la Encarnacíon'. Everyone knows it as 'Setas de la Encarnación' (Mushrooms of Incarnation) because of its mushroom-like shape. The architect, Berliner
Jürgen Mayer, was the creator of this modern work which has changed Seville's centre
since its inauguration in 2011. It's possible to go up this viewpoint to appreciate
the spectacular views of Seville's old town and to admire the contrast between the
old architecture and that of the Metropol Parasol itself. Access to the walkway
which crosses the top part of the Metropol Parasol costs 1.40 € (that's if
you weren't born in Seville or if you're not a resident). The viewpoint is open from 10.30am
to midnight during the week, and it's open until 1am on weekends.
The Jewish Quarter of Seville
Small streets, tunnels and little white houses are what you'll find on your walk around the Jewish quarter.
An emblematic district.
This is one of the districts that you must visit
due to its poignant air and special charm. This is the district that the Jews inhabited,
from the reconquest of Seville during the 13th century, to their expulsion two centuries
later when the Catholic Monarchs began to rule. Although the district no longer
exists as such, Sevillians still recognize it as being Jewish but
it's now part of the 'Santa Cruz' district, in the old town. Go through
its narrow streets and the small tunnels that link them to different houses. The area can have quite a striking zigzag route at some parts
and it'll make you feel like you're in a kind of maze, surrounded by low, white houses. Make the most of your visit and get lost around the Jewish quarter!
Calle Sierpes
It's wonderful to wander around the city and you must include this commercial street on your travels.
Charming streets.
If you like to wander around, Seville is full of charming streets. Some streets are more remote
and desolate, while others are busier like the street named
'calle Sierpes', which is worth visiting, even though it's a very busy street due to its commercial nature. It's in the city centre and it's a pedestrian street, which makes it easier to enjoy. In the past, this street was called 'Espaderos' back in 1248 and it wasn't until the 14th century when it's name
was changed to the name of 'Sierpe'. It's name changed again later to be known as 'calle Sierpes'. On this street, there's occasionally live music, miming and street vendors.
Plaza de América
While you're in the 'Maria Luisa Park', come along to see this square which is surrounded by important buildings.
A main square.
This square was built for the Ibero-American Exposition in Seville
during 1929. 'Plaza de América', which was designed by the
Sevillian architect, Aníbal González, is right next to the park named 'parque de María Luisa'. The nice thing about this square, besides its atmosphere and
palm trees, is that it's surrounded by three impressive buildings: the 'Museo de las Artes y
Costumbres Populares' (Museum of Arts and Traditions, which used to be the Mudéjar pavilion), where you will see that it has
facilities for making ceramics; the 'Pabellón Real' (Royal Pavilion), and the
'Museo Arqueológico' (Archaeological Museum). The square also has
a couple of roundabouts that are interesting to see and these are dedicated
to several famous people. Go and discover 'Plaza de América'!
Cañada de los Pájaros
If you want to have a different day out, perhaps it'll interest you to head along here to see the different bird species.
Do you like birds?
If you want to leave the typical routes of Seville for a little and stop wandering around its
wonderful streets for a while, you can always keep doing outdoor activities, and if you like zoological parks, visit the 'Cañada de los
Pájaros' in the region of 'Doñana' which is 24 km from the city centre and 10
km from the Doñana nature reserve. 'Cañada de los Pájaros' was declared as
a Natural Concerted Reserve by the Department of Environment in 1991. Here, you
can observe the most varied bird life in Europe as this place has between
150-200 species. You can see some of the birds that are in danger of extinction such as the
black stork, the marbled duck or the purple heron. Don't miss it!
Jardines de Murillo
Walk around these gardens for a breath of fresh air and admire the works by local artists.
Take a breather.
Seville is full of places where you can walk and feel the explosion of
vegetation and Andalusian architecture and there are a few green gems that
you must visit in the city. One of these is the 'Jardines de Murillo', which is located
on the avenue of 'Menéndez Pelayo'. These gardens are named as such because they are
close to the birthplace of the Sevillian painter named 'Bartholomew Esteban Murillo'. In 1911,
a part of the Alcazár's land was sold in order to create these gardens
designed by Juan Talavera y Heredia. Here, you'll find a large botanical variety with species such as Bougainvillea, Japanese spindle, Crepe Myrtle, Magnolias and hybrid bananas, among others. During your walk, you can also see some works which are dedicated to famous and important people, such as the roundabout dedicated
to the painter named 'Jose García Ramos'.
Feria de Abril
You must visit this celebration at some time during your life to get caught up in its spirit.
Celebration par excellence.
This is the big fair in Seville and one of Spain's most famous traditional celebrations, which is only celebrated once a year. If you happen to be visiting
the Andalusian city during the month of April, you must experience the Seville Fair to fall in love with its music, its dancing and its food! 'La Feria de Abril' was born in 1847 as a livestock fair, but it has nothing has to do with the same 19th-century fair nowadays. People really treat this traditional fair as a big occasion by
dressing up in traditional Andalusian suits; the men wear traditional country attire
and the ladies put on flamenco or gypsy-style dresses. You will see carriages and
'casetas' (stalls) and although the majority of these are private, there are some public ones too. The 'Feria de Abril' lasts for a week.
Maybe you'll be in Seville for this really heartfelt celebration.
Patio San Eloy
Make a stop and have something in this traditional 'tapas' bar.
A 'tapas' bar.
An ideal place for having a snack or to have lunch. The place isn't wonderful, but
the food certainly is. It's a typical pit stop bar with its bar culture and legs of ham hung around and it's somewhere
to try tasty 'tapas' that can be served either hot or cold. This place has a couple of steps or
stands where people sit down to enjoy their food and wine. Order your dish or
tapa at the bar and take it to the tiled stairs! Sometimes this place becomes so full that it seems like a terrace full of people who are about to see a show. You'll find several 'Patios San Eloy' bars in Seville and the most central are in the districts of 'El Arenal', Santa Cruz and Triana. They are easy to recognize because they all have large painted tiles of a flamenco design with the name 'El Patio' outside. If you're looking for a tasty and cheap place to eat - don't miss it!
El Rinconcillo
Come and check out the interior of this place and order your lunch or 'tapas'.
Good traditional tapas in the city.
El Rinconcillo' seems to be the oldest bar in Seville, considering that it opened for the first time in
1670 and hasn't stopped serving wonderful tapas since. Don't miss its interior, which is among the most authentic and oldest in the city when it comes to
bars. Its interior couldn't be any more extraordinary! Come in and have a glass of wine to find, what was said to be the dining rooms of a convent in the past, and then make the most of your visit by trying its menus that are between 28 and 52 € with deluxe dishes like 'parrillada de marisco' (barbecued seafood), 'gambas de Huelva' (shrimps of Huelva) or 'arroz caldoso con bogavante' (lobster risotto). You can also choose their tapas, which are cheaper, like
the 'pavías de bacalao' (battered cod), 'chocos' (cuttlefish) or 'coquinas de la casa' (house wedge shells).
Los Coloniales
Two places to go and try their simple and tasty specialties.
Simple and great quality food.
There are two pubs named 'Los Coloniales', one in the square of 'plaza Cristo de Burgos' and the other on the street named 'calle Fernandez and
González'. Colonial products used to be sold in these pubs, which is how they got their name, but it wasn't
until 1994 when Eugene García rescued the image of this place. 'Los Coloniales' always offer excellent Spanish food, like their 'tostas
típicas de salmorejo y chacina' (traditional toast with tomato and bread pureé and cold meat) or 'crujiente de berenjenas con
salmorejo' (crispy aubergines with tomato and bread pureé), and they also have delicious desserts like “la tía pepa”, for example. These pubs
become packed, so it's best to reserve a table if you're going with others. If you're around Seville -pop in 'Los Coloniales'!
Mesón Cinco Jotas
There are two of these restaurants in the city and both offer dishes which are as tasty as the other.
A 5J restaurant.
This tavern is part of a chain of high quality restaurants which are
distributed over several cities. The 'Mesón Cinco Jotas' in Seville has
two restaurants: the 'Cinco Jotas Arfe' and the 'Cinco Jotas Albareda'. The former is situated on the street of
'calle Castelar' with views of the 'plaza de Maestranza' square, whereas the 'Albareda'
is on the street named 'calle Sierpes', which is very near the 'Reales Alcázares' and the cathedral, and has a terrace that's very busy in the summer. In the 'Mesón Cinco Jotas' restaurants, you'll find quality fresh produce at a good price. In these pubs,
you can enjoy their famous 'croquetas de jamón 5J' (5J ham croquettes), 'croquetas de jamón de bellota' (acorn-fed Iberian ham croquettes) or
'caña de lomo' (pork loin). Besides their famous 'jamón' (or ham), it's also
recommended to try other 'tapas' or their 'salmorejo' (tomato and bread pureé). They pull a good beer here, so it can be a good option for refreshing your throat.
Casa Pepe Hillo
To have tapas in a bullfighting bar is must-do on your visit to the city.
Delicious wines and tapas.
This tapas bar is on the other side of 'Triana' in the district of 'El Arenal' and its name is a tribute to the Sevillian bullfighter 'Pepe-Hillo'. The decoration of this bar is very inspired by bullfighting with prints of bull runs, heads of bulls on the walls, and you'll even see farming utensils in here. The bar
is always is full and sometimes even too much, but it has a very pleasant and lively atmosphere. Classic dishes are on the menu and
there are also tapas, as well as house specials. We recommended the 'patatas con alioli con lagrimitas de pollo' (potatoes with garlic mayonnaise and southern- fried chicken sticks), the 'espinacas con garbanzos' (spinach with chick-peas), or the 'queso frito con mermelada' (fried cheese with jam). The average price is around 15 €, so if you're around the old town, don't miss out on tasting some wine and a few of tapas in 'Pepe Hillo'!
Álvaro Peregil
A traditional pub for enjoying 'tapas' in a characteristic district of Seville.
An authentic Andalusian pub.
The 'Santa Cruz' district, which attracts attention for its narrow streets and white houses is one
of the most important districts in Seville, and here is where you'll find this traditional
Andalusian pub called 'Alvaro Peregil', which opened its doors at the end of 2008. You'll see that
there are several 'Tabernas Peregil' (or Peregil pubs) in Seville, which are tapas bars. In these pubs, you can taste 'huevos rotos' (type of fried egg), 'alcachofas' (artichokes), 'tortilla de camarones' (shrimp omellettes) or 'tapas'. The 'Alvaro Peregil' pub is decorated with a fair amount of Sevillian 'azulejos' (or tiles)
which are hand-painted by the ceramist, Manuel Ruíz Gil. These bars open
every day until midnight. Don't miss them!
Kiosko de Las Flores
Delicious servings of the most traditional Andalusian cuisine - 'pescaíto frito'.
Fried fish and more.
The perfect place for crispy fried food: 'calamares fritos' (fried squid) or 'pescaíto frito' (little fried fish). In 1930,
the 'Kiosko de Las Flores' was established on the street of 'calle Betis', in the centre of Seville. We invite you to
enjoy its food in its terrace next to the Guadalquivir River. The outstanding dishes among
their specialties are the 'merluza en tacos' (hake tacos), 'gambas fritas' (fried prawns), 'puntillitas' (fried baby squid),
'acedías' (plaice) or 'cazon de adobo' (marinated dogfish). But not everything is fried here, they also
have cheeses, grilled prawns, vegetable stews, meats and paellas. The
'Kiosko de Las Flores' has become more than famous in the Andalusian city and
it's practically a cult place for lovers of fried fish. Remember
that it opens every day except Mondays.
Restaurante Las Lapas
Enjoy a drink or something to eat in their terrace, in order to relax and refresh yourself.
It's terrace time.
Located very near the 'Reales Alcázeres', the terrace at the
'Restaurante Las Lapas' is the perfect place to have lunch and dinner in the summer, and it's one of the best place to
stop for a bite to eat. The restaurant opened
in 1971 and nowadays it's a well-known restaurant for enjoying tapas. Their main dishes are delicious: 'solomillo de ternera' (beef sirloin), and 'paella o bacalao de Islandia con tomate' (paella or Icelandic cod with tomato). These are some of the dishes that you can try, and as starters they have
'jamón ibérico' (Iberian ham) or 'alcachofas con gambas' (artichoke with prawns). Their average price is
between 25 - 30 €, but if you'd just like a 'tapa' and a glass of wine, you'll find a selection at
good prices. It's best if you come and try it for yourself!
Antigua Abacería de San Lorenzo
An old grocery shop that maintains its spirit, so that you can have a glass of wine and a bite to eat.
Tapas galore.
In the district of Macarena, this grocery shop used to take up a part of the ground floor of
the old 17th century house, but it ended up occupying the whole building some time later.
'Abacerías' were small grocery shops where food products were sold
on a small scale and where sellers would offer you products to try that were on sale.
Sometimes these samples were accompanied with a glass of wine. When you enter the 'Antigua Abacería de
San Lorenzo', you will actually see that the place and its decoration still preserve
the elements of traditional shops: shelving with food products; an old scale, and display cabinets with pulse and local products. This restaurant keeps the concept of a traditional shop, serving red and white wines, cold meats, cheeses,
pisto, mussels, or more filling dishes like golden cod, mushrooms with
noodles or potato scramble, and all of these are at unbeatable prices. Their dishes are around
6-12 € and a glass of wine is around 2 €.
Casa Robles
You have come to the right restaurant if you're looking for traditional food or more international types of cuisine.
Excellent food quality.
Casa Robles was founded by Juan Robles back in 1954. Prior
to being a restaurant, this building was a wine shop that gradually evolved until
it became a wine shop/bar, and then in 1964, it transformed into what we see today - a restaurant with top quality produce. The
cuisine at the 'Casa Robles' restaurant mixes Mediterranean and
international food, but Andalusian cuisine always plays the main role in here. The best thing to do is
come and try some of their dishes: 'Caña de lomo' (pork loin), 'ventresca de
atún' (tuna steaks), 'salmorejo' (tomato and bread pureé) or 'presa ibérica' (shoulder of Iberian pork) which is basically the meat of an Iberian pig. The average price
is approximately 30 €. Everything deserves to be tasted here! 'Casa Robles' has now become
one of Seville's classic restaurants.
Elefunk
In the middle of the street named 'Betis', you'll find this club which is full of musical variety for a night of dancing.
International music and a good atmosphere.
For those who want to dance to funk, hip-hop, R&B, broken beat, groove or Afro-American music
- the Elefunk club is your place! The club organizes music-themed nights, so on Wednesdays, for example, the style is
more about hip-hop, R&B or 70's disco music; you'll listen to jazz, funk and soul on Thursdays and
Sundays, whereas Fridays are for broken beat and
there's a variety of music which is mixed by local and national DJs every Saturday. Besides this, you'll find low prices in Elefunk, considering that the drinks cost 5 €, and there's a pleasant, fun and multicultural atmosphere. Find it on the street named 'calle Betis', next to the bank of the Guadalquivir River, in the famous district of Triana.
Teatro Lope de Vega
Visit this theatre if you're interested in its listings, as well as its building and location.
Classical theatre in the city.
Very near to the spectacular Maria Luisa Park, this theatre has been the setting for
big shows of opera, dance and theatre etc. Vicente Traver was the architect who designed the 'Lope de Vega' theatre with a neo-Baroque eclectic style. Its construction began in 1927 and finished two years later. You'll see that the theatre has a dome which is currently
the grand foyer. Among its listings, you'll see plays by Calderón
de la Barca, Diego Velázquez de Puerco or plays by Shakespeare. This theatre is
a classic in Seville. Don't miss the opportunity of seeing
some of the famous works by classic playwrights! The ticket prices
vary according to the play and you can find out more information on their programme and prices at the 'Teatro Lope de Vega'.
Casa Anselma
You'll enjoy a different night with music and dancing at any time during the night.
A typical place for a drink.
This place couldn't be any more authentic. Don't think that Casa Anselma is a club or a lounge because it's the complete opposite to these. It's your typically Sevillian everyday kind of pub with flamenco decoration, and in this popular place, you can enjoy flamenco concerts where people play music on typical chairs
called “rocieras”. The best of all are the shows and the decoration. Don't miss one of their most well-known performances of the night that involves Anselma herself who sings and greets people as they come in to the bar. They open around 11.30pm and close about 4 am, so you can have a late drink here or the first one of the night. The drinks are also really cheap. You don't have an excuse!
Naima Café Jazz
You can enjoy good music with a good atmosphere and forget where you are for a moment.
Not everything is flamenco.
This unusual café is situated on a street named 'Trajano' in the heart of Seville's historical centre. The 'Naima Café Jazz' is small and full of round tables and walls filled with photographs of the cream of jazz and blues, as well as local jazz musicians and this place is ideal for having a drink while you listen to the versions of big name jazz musicians. Live concerts start at 9.30pm nearly every day of the week and there's no need to pay to get in. There's a shop inside the café that sells second hand records, in case you want to go in and buy a musical gem. It's open every day from around 3.30pm to 3am.
Teatro Duque La Imperdible
It's possible to spend a different night out thanks to this theatre with a multitude of activities.
Theatre time.
The 'Teatro Duque' theatre is managed by the theatre company 'Teatro y Danza Producciones
Imperdibles', which is where this theatre takes the name of 'Teatro Duque La Imperdible'. The 'Imperdible' theatre in the 'Duque de la Victoria' square opened in
the 90's and it was a benchmark in the world of theatre and contemporary dance in Seville over many years. In 2007, it closed due to the construction of flats on the land where it was located, but luckily the theatre is about to reopen. Nowadays, the 'Teatro Duque' is waiting to open to the public on
the street of 'calle Torneo'. This theatre is the best option for fun nights out and to watch dramatic theatre for all ages. Their
programme also has a selection of concerts that you can't miss.
Avenida 5 cines
If you like films, and more so in original version, don't miss their cinema showtimes.
For film buffs.
In Seville, leisure isn't only related to going round the bars, to go
partying or visiting museums. You also have the option to go and see a good independent film in the cinemas of
'Avenida 5 Cines', which are located on the street of 'Marqués de Paradas' where you can
find films in original version as well as dubbed films. Its hoarding has brought
many films that have received important awards in festivales such as
'Sundance', 'Berlinale' and 'Tribeca'. That's why 'Avenida 5 Cines' has become one of
the leading cinemas in the city, when it comes to films in original version. You'll see that the cinema's
exterior doesn't attract much attention, considering that its aesthetic is now old-fashioned, but if you fancy watching a good film, you won't regret having come to this place!
El Perro Andaluz
Enjoy the night while you enjoy having something in this really special bar.
A bar full of culture.
Buñuel wasn't just present in cinema, he also has a presence in this
bar somehow, which is named after one of his most famous surreal films. This bar is very cosy and it has so much
atmosphere. It's visited by a variety of people like Bohemians, young people and intellectuals and it
offers an endless amount of activities: exhibitions, concerts, poetry by
Sevillian poets, theatre… Check the times of their shows on their website at perroandaluz.es or head along to the 'Perro
Andaluz' to see what cultural surprise is going to be on in this bar which has the name of a film. You'll find it on the street named 'Bustos Tavera' and it opens every day. There's no excuse for not going out to enjoy Seville at night!
Bar Ego
It's not a bar, shop, or a restaurant, it's actually a place where you'll find a little of everything.
Eat or drink something, buy clothes or listen to music.
This place is a mixture of a bar with DJs, a restaurant, a clothes shop and an art gallery, which is located on the street called 'calle Calatrava' in the area of 'Alameda', and very close to the canal known as 'canal de Alfonso XIII'. You'll see that they have put 'restaurante-café y sala de
tendencias y arte' at the entrance and 'Bar Ego' is all this and more. Head along here to eat something around midday or have a drink here at night and you'll find Mediterranean cuisine mixed with the Asian food that's priced between 15 and 20 €. Besides this,
there are DJ sessions every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If
you're looking for a nice and eclectic place with different atmospheres, where you can go
during the day or at night - 'Bar Ego' is your place in Seville! Just remember that it's closed on Mondays.
Bar Garlochi
The ideal time to visit this bar in all its glory is after a procession during the Easter Week.
A very traditional place.
If you visit Seville during Easter, you'll probably find that this bar is
packed. This place is also full during other times of the year, but not so much as it is during Easter.
Its decorated in a very rich and baroque style that's mixed with a touch of kitsch. It's certainly a peculiar bar and it's full of Bohemians and artists and if you're fan of the singer, Isabel Pantoja, you'll know that one of her songs is named after this bar. As part of its decoration,
you'll see virgins, portraits of saints, religious figures; an altar with an angel
full of flowers at the entrance, altarpieces and figures of Christ, etc. Don't leave without trying the 'sangre de Cristo' and the 'agua de Sevilla', which is a typical drink at the 'Garlochi', that's mixed with vodka, whisky and grenadine. Find it on the street named 'calle Boteros' which is in the heart of the city's historic centre.
Bar Las Teresas
Any time of the day is good to visit this bar and to enjoy one of its wines.
A typical bar.
This typical, local and traditional bar is full of hanging legs of cured ham and
walls full of photos and tiles. You'll find it on the 'calle' (street) named 'Santa Teresa', in the district
of 'Santa Cruz' which is full of mazes and narrow streets. In this bar 'Las Teresas', you can either go for a delicious breakfast, a dish of their traditional cuisine or go for a drink. It's ideal to go here either in the morning, for lunch, dinner or to have a drink. Dating back to 1870, this ground floor
is very well preserved considering the years that have gone by. In fact, it used to be a grocery shop
which was later turned into an off license and then it became the café/bar 'Las Teresas' in 1971. Don't leave without tasting their red and white wines with some tasty, cured Iberian ham!
Maria Luisa Park
place to breathe, walk and imagine the stories it keeps.
A private garden that has become the lungs of Seville.
In 1893 it was the Duchess of Montpensier, Infanta María Luisa Fernanda de Borbón, who donated this garden to Seville. It was the private garden of the Palacio de San Telmo, and it was opened to the public in 1914. Thanks to this park, Seville breathes fresh air, becoming a very important green spot for the city. The Maria Luisa park has forty hectares, and you will see that the center of the park is Mount Gurugú, with the Fuente de Los Leones, the Isleta de los Patos or the Estanque de los Lotos. Be sure to visit this little gem in which to get lost both in summer and winter, and in which you will see Renaissance and Arabic-Andalusian reminiscences. You can visit the park every day from 8am to 10pm.
Archivo General de Indias
Although you're not looking for a document, visit this place and enjoy the architecture of this building.
The Spanish colony archive.
All documentation related to the administration of Spanish colonies with more than 8,000 drawings and colony maps are stored in this archive of great national and international reference, which was ordered by Carlos III. Since the 'archivo de las Indias' is very important, it was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1987. The archive was placed in this building which is named the 'Casa Lonja de Mercaderes de Sevilla' and it's worth
a visit to enjoy its inner patio which is made of stone and plenty of arches
and windows. There are temporary exhibitions on the first floor of the building, so make the most of your visit by going to see them! The 'Archivo General de Indias' is open every day and entry is free of charge.
Real Alcázar
Another visit that you can't miss, as this building is a World Heritage Site for a good reason.
An unforgettable place.
You are before a fortress which has been declared as a World Heritage Site, and this is another
of the must-visits in the city due to its historical interest and its visual
impact. This spectacular set of palaces was ordered by 'Abd-ar-Raman III'. A wall protects and
surrounds the palaces, gardens and rooms that make up this set: the Mudejar palace or that of 'Pedro I'
(Peter of Castile), and the Gothic palace with its magnificent gardens, which are the essential
part of the Alcázar. Among some of the palace gardens that stand out, you'll find the 'Jardines de Mercurio',
the 'Jardines del Príncipe' and the 'Jardín de Troya'. The price of general admission is a little less than 9 €, and there's free entry every Monday during April to September from 6pm to 7pm, or every Monday during October to March from 4pm to 5pm. Visit the 'Real Alcázar' and you won't forget it!
Casa de Pilatos
Interior and exterior beauty. Visit this building and travel back in time!
Don't miss the interior of this building!
This wonderful and harmonious Gothic-Mudejar palace is situated in the 'Plaza de Pilatos',
which is part of Seville's historic centre. The building was constructed at the end of the 15th century and although
its cresting is Gothic, it also features plateresque and Renaissance elements. Pedro Enríquez and Catalina de Ribera were the
married couple of Sevillian nobles who bought
this property in 1483 and began the construction of the palace. It has a main patio
which is decorated with many tiles, as well as a fountain and several columns
that are crowned with arches. Beside this, the floor at the top of the building has a collection of tapestries and
paintings. Visit it and admire both its interior and exterior! Don't forget to check its
different opening times according to the time of year.
Pabellón Mudéjar
Located within the park, this building mixes different styles and uses.
A building with plenty to see.
In 'plaza de España', you'll find this building in the Maria Luisa park which
may be visited from Tuesday to Sunday. The 'Pabellón Mudéjar' is nowadays home to Seville's 'Museo de las Artes y
Costumbres Populares' (Museum of Arts and
Traditions). This pavilion was built between 1911 and 1914, and was the work of Aníbal
González for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, but it had another
name at that time, which was the 'pabellón de Arte Antiguo'. You'll see that the building is in front of a lake and
it forms part of the regionalist architectural movement, which recovers materials
from periods in the past. For example, you'll be able to check that it has elements
of Neo-Mudejar art, which mixes Caliphal, Mozarab, Almohad and Nasrid styles. The real
beauty of this building lies in its exterior but the 'Museo de las Artes y
Costumbres Populares' was inaugurated inside the Mudejar Pavilion in 1972 and you will have the luck to see the only expository glass display case in the
lobby which was made for the Ibero-American Exposition.
Plaza de España
This square is one of the most beautiful places in Seville which doesn't leave anyone feeling indifferent.
Stunning beauty.
You are in Seville's most important square and one of the most spectacular in
the city. When Alfonso XIII saw it in 1928, he said: “Gentlemen, I knew
it was beautiful, but not as much as this”. This is how it is. 'Plaza de España' is located in a side of the park named 'Maria
Luisa', which is near San Bernardo railway station in the heart of the city centre.
You can enter this square from the avenues named 'Isabel la Católica' and 'Portugal', or the street known as 'Nicolas Alpériz'. Aníbal González was the architect who
was in charge of this Sevillian gem that was finally inaugurated by Alfonso XIII during the 20th century. As 'plaza de España' is such a colourful place, you'll be surprised by the details on the walls behind the benches which surround the square. Let yourself fall in love with the decoration of its painted tiles, which depict the 48 Spanish provinces.
Puente de Triana
With a long history, this bridge is the link for two very unique districts.
The crossing to Triana.
Triana Bridge is the popular name for the 'Puente de Isabel II' (Elizabeth II Bridge). The two
French engineers, Ferdinand Bennetot and Gustavo Steinacher, were responsible for
the construction of the new Triana Bridge that was built with iron
and stone between 1845 and 1852. This bridge replaced the previous one named 'puente de Barcas'. It's purpose in the old town is to cross the Guadalquivir River and link the districts of 'El Arenal' and 'Triana'. In its day, it was the oldest iron bridge that was preserved in Spain and it's very nice to see this 7-metre tall bridge from a distance in order to observe it's ironwork. Either at night or during the day, Triana Bridge
has its own charm.
Torre del Oro
With its defensive spirit, you'll be amazed by this tower as the sun sets.
A symbol of Seville.
The 'Torre del Oro' is located next to the river and was built in 1221 as part of
the Alcazar's walls. Its objective was merely defensive, hence it occupied this location and it has been a very important and characteristic monument in the history of Seville. The tower is made up of three levels - the first is Almohad and
it's equally divided into three levels which are distributed in the shape of arches. The second level measures 8 and a half metres, and the third is the circular cupola
that leads to the terrace which you can reach by climbing the spiral staircase. You'll see
that the tower seems to light up at sundown due to the sun's projection and it's a beautiful sight!
Giralda
One of the key points in the city that you can not miss.
The most famous bell tower.
It's the bell tower of Seville Cathedral and this is the only piece that's preserved from the
ancient mosque of the end of the 12th century that used to stand where the
cathedral is today. Several parts of the 'Giralda' can be distinguished and starting from the bottom, you have the
carillon; on top of this is the “clock section", then the " well section" that
has a Biblical inscription; “the stars section”, “the
cannon section” with spherical stones, “the feather” and “the large earthenware jar”, where the sculpture of the vane is, and the famous “Giraldillo”. The latter is the sculpture of a female which crowns the
Giralda and was made between 1566 and 1568. Don't leave Seville without going up the 'Giralda', via the interior
ramps! The visiting hours coincide with those of the cathedral and depend on the time of the year.
Catedral de Sevilla
The first obligatory stop in the city for its history, interior and bell tower.
A mixture of styles and periods.
This cathedral is officially named 'Catedral de Santa María de la Sede de Sevilla' (Cathedral of Santa Maria of the See of Seville).
Since it took more than 100 years to build, this cathedral has been through
several architectural periods: mudejar, Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque and neoclassic.
In the 12th century, it was a Grand Almohad Mosque from the Almohad era, and nowadays it's the
largest catholic and Gothic cathedral in the world. Its bell tower known as the 'Giralda' is very
famous and this is the only element of the
mosque which has been preserved. It's also an interesting fact that this cathedral has the mortal remains of
'Cristóbal Colón' (Christopher Columbus) and 'Alfonso X el Sabio' (Alfonso X of Castile), among others. This cathedral is a must-visit
for its history, as well as its grandeur and extraordinary
architecture. The cathedral has different opening times in winter and summer and may be visited during the whole year. General admission costs 8 €.
