"We have indirect contact with millions of travellers every day so we're keen to help speed up the adoption of more sustainable travel."

"Being part of the Círculo SAF is important to boost the energy transition. It enables us to improve our carbon footprint management while supporting the decarbonisation of the aviation sector."

"We are committed to SAF as a viable alternative for decarbonising aviation. We know we can't do it alone: collaborating with committed companies is the way to drive change."

"We are firmly committed to providing on-going support for strategic partners in order to boost the use of SAF and reduce CO2 emissions."

"Joining the Círculo SAF is also a way of contributing to the energy transition in our country. This initiative combines two essential ingredients for driving real change: innovation and collaboration."

"Airbus is committed to the decarbonisation of aviation and we believe collaboration is key to accelerating this transition. Iberia's Círculo SAF is a vital initiative that unites major industry players to build the demand necessary for the scalable production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel."

The development of SAF in Spain represents an opportunity for the country: energy transition, local industry and sustainability. PwC Report
Replacing fossil fuels and creating a more competitive market with SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
Educating, promoting and collaborating to strengthen sustainability in the industry.
Combining strengths to solve common challenges in achieving net-zero emissions.
They are indirect greenhouse gas emissions that come from supply chain activities outside the company's direct control. They include, for example, the production of raw materials, transport, distribution, business travel and staff commuting.
On average, business travel accounts for 25% of companies' total emissions, which vary by sector (Source: GBTA Foundation Report, June 2023). The Círculo SAF seeks to reduce the environmental impact of this type of travel.
Your carbon footprint is a simple way of showing how your lifestyle generates carbon emissions. It's your impact on the planet.
Your individual emissions are generated through your personal consumption of, for example, electricity and transport, as well as the energy required to produce your food and all the other products you buy, whether they are manufactured in Spain or elsewhere in the world.
We convert all the different greenhouse gases into an equivalent carbon dioxide impact, which is the most common greenhouse gas generated by human activity.
SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) is the only currently viable solution to decarbonise aviation as it can be used without modifying either aircraft engines or airport infrastructures. If you want to find out more, please see our information on sustainable fuels.

Fuels eligible for RCDE (FEETS) support
In March 2025, Iberia and Iberia Express applied for the EU SAF support mechanism available under the EU ETS through the FEETS Regulation. This support mechanism aims to promote the uptake of SAF by granting EU ETS emission allowances to airlines for the use of SAF on eligible routes within the scheme. The allowances help bridge the price gap between conventional jet fuel and SAF on flights covered by EU ETS carbon pricing.
During 2024, Iberia uplifted more than 3918 tonnes of SAF, of which 508,96 tonnes qualified for EU ETS support. Based on this volume, Iberia was awarded 7201 ETS emissions allowances in September 2025, of which volumes were credited to each airline’s EU ETS registry account. Based on the 2024 weighted average price of auctions carried out in accordance with Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2830, as published on the common auction platform (€64.74 per allowance), this equated to a financial support of € 466.192,74 .
Iberia Express uplifted in 2024 more than 7.200 tonnes of SAF, where all qualified for EU ETS support. Based on this volume, Iberia Express was awarded 118.066 ETS emissions allowances in September 2025, of which volumes were credited to each airline’s EU ETS registry account. Based on the 2024 weighted average price of auctions carried out in accordance with Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2830, as published on the common auction platform (€64.74 per allowance), this equated to a financial support of € 7.643.593.
Refer to the consolidated financial statements for financial accounting of EU ETS allowances.
Due to the retrospective nature of this programme, Iberia and Iberia Express will receive confirmation of EU ETS allowances awarded for SAF volumes uplifted in 2025 as part of their 2026 EU ETS compliance cycle.
