Iberia launches its flights to Fortaleza
Iberia offers three weekly flights, representing nearly 30,000 seats available to customers in the first half of the year
Iberia has officially inaugurated its flights between Madrid and Fortaleza, a new operation that further strengthens the airline’s strong commitment to the Brazilian market.
The route began operating on 19 January with three weekly frequencies, translating into around 30,000 seats available to customers in the first half of this year alone. With this addition, and alongside the recently launched route to Recife as well as its long-standing services to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Iberia now operates flights to four airports within Brazil. This makes Brazil the country with the highest number of Iberia destinations in Latin America.
In addition, the route is operated with an A321XLR, the most modern aircraft in Iberia’s fleet, of which the airline was the global launch customer. This narrow-body aircraft offers a range of up to 7,500 kilometres in Iberia’s configuration and is one of the most efficient aircraft on the market, achieving fuel savings of more than 40% compared with wide-body models. The A321XLR maintains the high comfort standards characteristic of other long-haul aircraft in Iberia’s fleet, such as the A350. It features the new Airspace cabin and is configured with two classes, Business and Economy, with a total of 182 seats.
Following a 27% growth last year—making Brazil the fastest-growing destination across Iberia’s entire long-haul network—the country will see a further 25% increase in capacity in the first half of 2026, significantly surpassing the nearly 600,000 seats offered in 2025.
