Iberia increases its commitment to Puerto Rico
The company will reach twelve weekly flights
Iberia will increase its commitment to Puerto Rico, a market that has steadily grown in recent months and is becoming one of the most important in the airline's network in Latin America.
Starting in September, Iberia will gradually increase the number of flights between Madrid and San Juan. Starting in April, twelve weekly flights will be maintained, which will be the maximum capacity the airline has had in the more than 75 years it has been operating this route. Iberia is considering further increasing the number of flights to the island and, exceptionally, will reach twice a day in February and March.
With this increase, Iberia's capacity will even exceed 650 daily seats between the two countries. The route will continue to be operated with the A330-200 as before, with a capacity for 288 passengers, but will also begin operating with the A321XLR, the most modern aircraft on the market, of which Iberia was the first airline. This single-aisle aircraft, which offers emissions reductions of more than 30% compared to wide-body models, has 188 seats distributed across the Business and Economy cabins.
Iberia's route between Puerto Rico and Europe launched in 2025 with one daily flight (seven weekly frequencies), and began to grow progressively throughout the year, reaching nine weekly frequencies in June, ten in September, and eleven in December. With these increases, it now had its highest capacity on record, with around 250,000 seats between San Juan and Madrid.
Iberia's two daily flights will depart each day at 12:35 and 15:50 from Madrid, while the return flight will depart from San Juan at 18:10 and 21:25.
New agreement to promote Puerto Rico in Europe
Iberia and the Puerto Rico Tourism Office have signed a new agreement that strengthens and updates a historic relationship of more than 76 years between the two entities. The purpose of this alliance is to consolidate Puerto Rico's presence in the European market, boosting its position as a top-tier tourist destination through Iberia's digital platforms, marketing campaigns, and communication channels.
The agreement, which reflects the mutual commitment to promoting tourism and strengthening ties between Spain and Puerto Rico, was signed by Willianette Robles, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Office, and Víctor Moneo, Global Sales Director for Iberia.
Thanks to this renewal, the two entities expect to expand Puerto Rico's visibility in Europe, attract a greater number of travelers, and strengthen the cultural and economic connection between the two territories.
Madrid, ever closer to Puerto Rico
Thanks to the increased capacity between Puerto Rico and Spain, more and more customers are using the Hola Madrid stopover program, which allows them to extend their stopover in Madrid by up to nine nights and enjoy a wide range of discounts and benefits on accommodation, leisure, dining, and transportation in the Spanish capital.
The Hola Madrid stopover, which is free of charge, allows Puerto Ricans to take advantage of this stopover in the city both on the way to and from any of Iberia's other destinations in Spain, Europe, or the rest of the world.
